One of the ways prophets were\nintroduced to the people was by another prophet whose prophethood had been\nproved with logical reasoning. The previous prophet specifically introduced the\nfuture prophet, and this introduction should be to the extent that he had\ndestroyed all doubts towards the upcoming prophet. The prophethood of the\nProphet of Islam (PBUH&HP) was proven not only through clear logical\nreasoning, but also through the books of the previous prophets. Furthermore,\nhis name and characteristics have been clarified in the old and new\ntestaments. Allah (SWT) in the Holy\nQuran narrates from Prophet Isa\/Jesus (PBUH): “And remember, Jesus, the\nson of Mary, said: “O Children of Israel! I am the messenger of Allah\n(sent) to you, confirming the Law (which came) before me, and giving Glad\nTidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad.”(2)\nWhen this verse and the like were revealed, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) recited\nthem for people, and amongst them certainly groups of Jews and Christians\nresided in the Arabian Peninsula. Certainly if this news did not exist in their\nbooks, the scholars of these two religions would have objected immensely to\nthis matter. However according to authentic historical references, they not\nonly remained silent to these words, but as a matter of fact many of them\nbecame Muslims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The glad tidings to the final\nProphet’s appearance was present in Prophet Jesus’ (PBUH) own bible, and even\nif this news cannot be found in present-day bibles, this does not necessarily\nrefute the fact that this matter was included in Prophet Jesus’ (PBUH) own\nbible. This is simply because according to the present day bibles, each of the\ndisciples and non-disciples wrote down the words, actions, and commandments of\nProphet Isa (PBUH) based on their own observations and guesses, and published\nthem in the name of a bible. Therefore none of these bibles are Prophet Jesus’\n(PBUH) personal bible. (3) However, as Allah (SWT) has willed for the logical\nreasoning of the Quran and the Prophethood of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) to\nshine in all eras, the glad tidings of a prophet after Prophet Jesus (PBUH)\nwith name of Ahmad has been clearly stated in the bible of John. Even though\nthe interpreters of the bible are trying all they can to interpret the verses\npertaining to this news in other ways, a closer look can help reveal the truth?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bibles written in Syriac(4) give glad\ntidings of a person with the title of Farqilit who will come after Prophet\nJesus (PBUH). Farghelit is a Syriac word from a language that the people of\nSyria used to speak in. Islamic and Christian scholars all agree to the fact\nthat this Arabicized word is a Greek word, a language that the bible of John is\nwritten in. However, there is a difference of opinion on the main root of this\nGreek word. Islamic scholars believe that the Greek root of this word is\nPericlytos meaning Muhammad and Ahmad; however Christian scholars define the\nword Paracletos as one who consoles and comforter, and for this reason most\nBible interpreters interpret this word to be the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The following verses from the Bible of\nJohn chapters 15 and 16 clearly indicate this matter: ” But when the\nComforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit\nof truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me ”\n(John, 15:26) (5) “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for\nyou that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you;\nbut if I depart, I will send him unto you … I have yet many things to say\nunto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is\ncome, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but\nwhatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to\ncome. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto\nyou. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall\ntake of mine, and shall shew it unto you.” (John, 16:7-15) (6)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The verses indicate a clear analysis\nthat Comforter or the Spirit of truth refers to a prophet that will come after\nProphet Jesus (PBUH). According to historical references and Christian scholars\nbefore Islam, Farqilit refers to the promised Prophet. A group took advantage\nof this matter and introduced themselves as the promised Farqilit. For example\nMuntas a man from the second century, year 177 A.D in Asia Minor who practiced\nstrict self-discipline, claimed to be the same Farqilit whom Jesus (PBUH) had\ngiven his glad tidings. And he was successful to gather a few followers. (7)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other hand the virtues and\ncharacteristics that Prophet Jesus (PBUH) gave to Farqilit prevents us from\nascribing Farqilit to the Comforter, Holy Spirit or other things; rather this\nmatter confirms the fact that Farqilit refers to no other than the promised\nProphet. For example Prophet Jesus (PBUH) has said, “… if I go not away,\nthe Comforter will not come unto you” (John, 15:7)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to this matter, Prophet\nJesus (PBUH) saw the arrival of Farqilit only to his departure. However if\nFarqilit was meant to be the Holy Spirit, its revelation on Prophet Jesus\n(PBUH) and on the disciples did not depend on Prophet Jesus’ (PBUH) departure,\nbecause according Christian belief, when Jesus (PBUH) wanted to send the\ndisciples to different areas to spread the message, the Holy Spirit descended\nupon them. (8) Therefore the descent of the Holy Spirit did not depend on\nProphet Jesus’ (PBUH) departure. However if we say Farqilit is a Prophet who is\nin charge of a global religion, his arrival would only happen with the\ndeparture of Prophet Jesus (PBUH). Paying close attention to these analyses can\nguide us to the truth the esteemed scholars of Islam have reached. It should be\nnoted that this article did not mention all analyses, and there are many more\nreasoning and proofs to this matter. (9)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the end we would like to bring a\nquote from the encyclopedia of France in regards to this matter: “Muhammad\nis the founder of Islam, and the final prophet sent by God. The word Muhammad\nmeans “highly praised” and it comes from the root word hamd which\nmeans praise. Based on a coincidence there is another name from the same root\nword which is a synonym to the name of Muhammad, and that is the name Ahmad.\nMost likely the Christians of Arabia used that word to identify Farqilit. Ahmad (meaning highly praised and\nmagnificent) is translation to the word Paraclytos, which was incorrectly\nworded as Paracletos. For this reason religious Islamic writers repeatedly note\nthat this word is the glad tidings to the appearance of the Prophet of Islam.\nThis matter is also presented in the 61st chapter of the Quran.”(10)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
