Every year Muslims from across the\nworld gather in one of the greatest gatherings on Eid ul Fitr. Millions of\nMuslims celebrate this day and gather in large societies to perform the Eid\nSalat and recite the Takbir twelve times to thank their Lord and bow to Him.\nBut truly, what is the wisdom behind this ritual of Eid ul Fitr?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fazl ibn Shazan has narrated the\nfollowing from Imam Reza (PBUH):<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Day of Fitr\nhas become Eid so that it is a location for the gathering and coming together\nof Muslims; for them to come together and leave their homes for Allah (SWT) and\nthank Allah for His blessings (and rewards of their worship) with greatness.\nThis day has become Eid so they gather (and see each other and get to know how\neach is feeling), (after one month of fasting) break their fast (and not fast\non this day), give Zakat (to the poor) and turn to Allah. And it is a day where\nthey present their requests to Allah (SWT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
(Furthermore,\nthis day has been considered eid) because Eid ul Fitr is the first day of the\nyear in which eating and drinking becomes permissible in it, because for those\nwho are of truth, the first month of the year is the month of Ramadhan (in\nwhich fasting is an obligation in this month). So Allah desires that this day\nbe a social day for Muslims, in which worship and praise of the Lord takes\nplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
(Also, it is for\nthis reason that) the Takbir of the Eid Salat is more than other Salat, because\nTakbir is done for the remembering and praising of the Lord in thanking him for\nguiding and giving health to the servants, such that Allah the almighty has Himself\nsaid, \u201cthat you should exalt the greatness of Allah for His having guided you\nand that you may give thanks.\u201d (Holy Quran 2:185)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
