The heroism of Abu alfadhl al-Abbas\u2019\n(PBUH) has been, and continues to be widely discussed amongst people. One can\u2019t\nhelp but wonder how a person who is hit hard with immense sorrow and grief,\nattack crowds of heavily armed enemies, and cause grave damages to their army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Historians have described the bravery\nof Abu alfadhl (PBUH) on the day of Ashura as such: \u201cWhenever he attacked the\nheavily fortified army of the enemy, despite their high number, they would turn\nback and flee to save their lives, crushing each other along the way, as they\nfeared death upon them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But Abbas\u2019 (PBUH) heroism was not the\nonly thing that described him. Abbas (PBUH) was courageous, virtuous, loyal,\nand the manifestation of empathy. He\nremained strong and steadfast alongside his brother, Imam Hussein (PBUH). Abbas\n(PBUH) was the flag bearer of the army, and the Imam\u2019s powerful hand in all\nmatters. Amongst the Imam\u2019s companions and family, Abu alFadhl (PBUH) had the\nstrongest spirit. He advocated the\nessence of martyrdom in the path of Imam Hussein (PBUH), while death was a\nsmall matter and life itself, trivial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The value of Abbas\u2019s (PBUH) sacrifice\nin the path of Imam Hussein (PBUH) was beyond a familial matter. It had nothing to do with his relation as the\nImam\u2019s brother, rather he had pure and divine intentions for the cause of Allah\n(SWT) alone. This is the very secret of the magnificence and everlastingness of\nhis sacrifice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Narrators have stated: \u201cThe heart of\nImam Hussein (PBUH) was filled with the love and pure intention of Abu\nalfadhl. And eventually, Abu alfadhl\nsacrificed his life for his master. Imam Hussein (PBUH) would hesitate, and\nrefuse permission to fight in the battlefield, until his companions and family\nhad been martyred. For the Imam could feel the strength of his presence beside\nhim\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And then Abbas (PBUH) fell, on the\nground. He called to his brother: \u201dO Aba\n\u2018Abdellah! May peace [from me] be upon You.\u201d2<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With that, the Master of Martyrs fell,\nheart broken. He rushed towards \u2018Alaqameh, shoving the enemy aside. He stood\nupon his brother\u2019s body, and threw himself on it. His eyes were filled with tears, and his\nheart was filled with pain. He grieved:\n\u201cAlas! My back is now broken, and all paths are closed on me.\u201d3<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It has been narrated that when the\nImam stood, he could not walk away from the body. He was in despair, and yet remained patient.\nWith tearful eyes he returned to the tents. \nHis daughter, Sakina came to him and asked: \u201cO Father! Where is my uncle\nAbu alfadhl?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam (PBUH) broke into tears, and\nlowering his voice, he broke the news of the martyrdom of Abu alfadhl. Sakina,\nshocked, began to cry heavily. When lady Zeinab (PBUH) heard the news, she lamented:\n\u201cO my brother! O my Abbas! Your departure is extremely hard on us! Alas on this\nloss! Woe on this great sorrow!\u201d4<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Indeed! Abu alfadhl Abbas (PBUH)\nshowed extraordinary strength, persistent will and indescribable bravery. He became one of exceptional commanders to\nportray virtue and purity in the history of Islam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
