“Peace be upon Ab al-Fadl al-Abbas, he preferred his brother to himself\nand sacrificed himself for his brother, supplied himself with opportunities of\ntoday for (the rewards of) the hereafter, hurried to supply the family of Imam\nwith water, and his two hands were cut off during performing this task.\u201d (Part\nof Ziarah Nahiah Muqaddasah)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hadrat Abbas (PBUH) provided very good\nprovision for the hereafter by obeying his brother\u2019s orders. But what is the\nsecret beyond this sacrifice that multiplied the value of his great\nself-sacrifice and our infallible Imams (PBUH) mention Hadrat Abbas and his\nself-sacrifice with such glory and majesty?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In two parts of Ziarah of the\ncommander of the Karbala, Imam Sadiq (PBUH) says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI witness that\nsurly you were benevolent in the way of Allah (SWT), His prophet and your\nbrother. So what a good self-sacrificing brother you were!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI witness that\nyou were obedient to successor of the Prophet (Imam Hussain (PBUH)), confirmed\nhim, remained faithful to him and were benevolence to him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Infallible Imam, who knows the\npersonality of each person and his intentions, testifies that the reason for\nobedience and self-scarifying of Hadrat Abbas was his benevolence for Allah\n(SWT), Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) and his brother Sayyed al-Shuhada (PBUH).\nIn addition, his benevolence for Sayyed al-Shuhada (PBUH) is like his\nbenevolence for Allah (SWT) and the Prophet (PBUH).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Obedience to Allah (SWT), the Prophet\n(PBUH) and Imam is considered a unique subject, which is defines as \u201cbehaving\nwith humility and respect toward them and obeying their commands\u201d, though the\nlevels are different. Obedience to Allah (SWT) is a result of monotheism.\nObedience to Prophet (PBUH&HP) is a result of Allah\u2019s (SWT) appointment and\nobedience to the Imam is because of his succession to the Prophet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the other words, by using the\nphrase of \u201cobeying the successor of the Prophet\u201d, Imam Sadiq (PBUH) show us\nthat Hadrat Abbas\u2019 (PBUH) sacrifice and benevolence to Imam Hussain (PBUH) is\nnot for cognation, nor knowing him as the head of family (Although it was\nhonorable, if he had acted as such). However, he has a deeper insight and his\nself-sacrifice is based on obedience to his Imam and self-sacrifice in the way\nof his willing. This is the reason that his self-sacrificing is equal to\nfighting in the army of the Prophet of Allah (PBUH&HP) and is equal to\nfighting in the way of Almighty Allah\u2019s (SWT) willing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abbas (PBUH) recognized and knew his\nImam and the successor of the Prophet of Allah in his time, obeyed him and sacrificed\nall the things that Allah (SWT) had bestowed him including life, properties,\nand family for Imam Hussain (PBUH) in order to gain Allah\u2019s (SWT) satisfaction.\nSo he achieved high rank and set out provision for hereafter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But how much do we know our Imams and\ntheir commands? How much do we try to obey their commands? How much are we\nsimilar to Hadrat Abbas (PBUH)?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
