There is not enough information about\nthe childhood and the youth of Zainab (PBUH); however, after some decades she\ncomes out, and the striking event of Karbala shows her to us. As Tabari\nmentions in his history, Hamid Ibn Muslim is one of the people who had\nwitnessed Zainab (PBUH) in Karbala. He depicts this great lady as, \u201cJust as a\nwoman who shined like the sun, she came out from the tents. I asked, \u2018who is\nshe?\u2019 They replied, \u2018she is Zainab, the daughter of Fatimah, the daughter of\nprophet of Allah.\u201d (1) <\/p>\n\n\n\n
If we want to know more about the\npersonality of Zainab (PBUH), we should wait until the events reveal her\ncourage and patience, and illustrate her to us, as the most excellent example\nof courage, greatness, and confrontation against injustice. That is when the\nresistance and patience of Zainab (PBUH) against Yazid Ibn Mu\u2019awiyah surprises\nthe historians. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ibn Hajar (Asqalani) in his book\n\u201cal-Isabah\u201d, depicts Zainab (PBUH) with words such as \u201cThe wise lady,\nperceptive, insightful\u201d.(2) In his\ndescription of Zainab (PBUH), he points to the case of the impudence of the\nShami man, in the court of Yazid, and the reaction of Zainab (PBUH), as he\nwrites, \u201cThe reply of Zainab to Yazid shows the wisdom, and confidence of heart\nand spirit of this lady.\u201d(3)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The people of that time, in Karbala\nand in the court of the governor of Kufah, and in the court of Yazid Ibn\nMu\u2019awiyah, heard statements from Zainab (PBUH) that surprised everyone in\neloquence and articulacy; just as it surprises us today, and all testify her\nexcellence and her magical speech giving. (4), (5)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the end of the speech in Kufah,\nAli Ibn al-Hussain (PBUH) turns to Zainab (PBUH) and says, \u201cDear aunt, thanks\nto Allah, you are knowledgeable without study, and perceptive without being\ntaught\u2026\u201d (6)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Also, Ibn Teifour in his book\n\u201cBalaghat al-Nisa\u201d, quotes from a narrator that, \u201cAfter the martyrdom of\nHussain (PBUH), I entered Kufah \u2026 and I saw Zainab. I swear to God that I have\nnot seen any reserved and fluent woman as her. She addressed the people just as\nshe was speaking from the tongue of Ali ibn Abi Talib (PBUH)\u201d. (7)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is the description of Zainab\n(PBUH), as we have seen in Karbala, and as her youth shows, because we hear\nthat she looked liked her mother in kindness and having a sensitive heart, and\nlooked like her father in knowledge and piety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Based on some narrations, Zainab\n(PBUH) used to hold a scholarly session, which when the women needed to learn\nabout the points of religion attended to learn. (8)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There were highlighting\ncharacteristics in Zainab (PBUH) that no woman at her time possessed, therefore\nshe is known as the wise woman of Bani Hashim. When Ibn Abbas, the companion of\nthe Great Prophet (PBUH&HP), wanted to quote from her, said \u201cour wise lady,\nZainab the daughter of Ali said as such…\u201d (9)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The fame of Zainab (PBUH) with that\ntitle was to an extent that when they said \u201cthe wise woman\u201d; everyone knew that\nthey mean Zainab (PBUH). Her children, as well, were proud of this title, and\nthey were known as the children of the wise lady.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. If we go into\na more detailed analysis of history, we realize that the truth is yet far\nbeyond to reach. A lady who has managed the sufferings of Karbala, and still\ndefends the message and the movement of Karbala, and while being captured, and\nin the castle of a killer like Yazid, addresses him as \u201cI swear to Allah, you,\nthe enemy of Allah, and the son of His enemy, I look down on you\u201d, is hard to\nput in plain words. Therefore the statements of Zainab (PBUH) in the castle of\nYazid, or the governor of Kufah, not only shows the eloquence and articulacy,\nbut also reveals her confidence of heart, belief, courage, and opposing the\ninjustice of that lady.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
