At the time when Lady Fatimah (PBUH)\nwas pregnant with Lady Zainab (PBUH), the holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP)\nwas not in Medina. When Lady Zainab (PBUH) was born, Lady Fatimah (PBUH) told\nImam Ali (PBUH), “Since my father is on the trip and is not present at\nthis moment, you choose a name for this child.” Imam Ali (PBUH) said,\n“I will not precede your father (in naming this child); wait until he (the\nProphet) returns. Then he will name this child whatever he prefers best.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three days later Prophet Muhammad\n(PBUH&HP) returned from his trip and like all other times, he first went to\nLady Fatimah’s (PBUH) house to greet them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Ali (PBUH) told the Prophet\n(PBUH&HP) about the newborn baby and how they waited for his return, to\nname this baby.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Prophet (PBUH&HP) said,\n“even though Fatimah’s (PBUH) children are my children, I will wait for a\nrevelation because this matter is with Allah.” At this moment Gabriel\ndescended and said, “O Messenger of Allah, the Lord sends his regards upon\nyou and says, “Name this child ‘Zainab’ because we have written this in a\npreserved tablet.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then the Prophet (PBUH&HP) asked\nthem to bring the newborn baby. He held her close to his chest, kissed her, and\nnamed her Zainab. Afterwards he said, “My will to the people, to those who\nare present and to those who are absent is to keep the respect for this child,\nfor she truly resembles Khadijah.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
