The preaching method of all the\nProphets has been based on humility and modesty; because whoever wants to\nconvey a message to the people, especially if it is the message of the Lord,\nhas to be extremely humble and modest towards them. In other words, such a\nperson has to stay away from being pretentious, avoid self-praise, refrain from\nbelittling people, and at the same time oppose the arrogant and conceited\npeople. This Divine behavior would cause the people to accept the sayings of\nthe messengers. Prophet Jesus (PBUH), the great messenger of the Lord, was no\nexception to this rule; in fact, he taught his followers to be such. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
One day, Prophet Jesus (PBUH)\napproached his disciples and said to them,\u201d I have a request from you; I will\nask it only if you promise to fulfill it\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The disciples replied,\u201d O messenger of\nthe Lord! We will obey whatever you ask\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then, Prophet Jesus (PBUH) got up,\nbent towards the disciples, and started washing their feet one after the other.\nThe disciples felt uncomfortable and ashamed; however, since they had promised\nto fulfill his request, they remained silent and submissive as Prophet Jesus\n(PBUH) was washing their feet. Once Prophet Jesus (PBUH) was done, the\ndisciples told him,\u201d O messenger of the Lord! You are our teacher. It was\nappropriate that we washed your feet rather than you washing ours!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prophet Jesus (PBUH) replied,\u201d I did\nso to teach you that the most appropriate ones to help people are scholars. I\ndid so to be humble, and to teach you humbleness, so that when you undertake\nteaching and guiding people after me, and you treat people with humbleness and\nfavor. Indeed, wisdom grows on the grounds of humbleness, not arrogance; just\nlike plants grow in soft soils rather than hard lands of the mountains. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
