Imam Hassan al-Askari (PBUH) was born\nin Medina in the year 232 A.H. Like the other Imams, Imam Hassan (PBUH) lived\nduring the oppression and chaos of the tyrants of his time. His life was under\nwatch by the cruel Abbasid Caliph who would send his men to torture and spy on\nImam Hassan\u2019s (PBUH) daily activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When Mu\u2019tazz the Abbasid caliph came\nto power, he put the Imam under tremendous pressure. He would send the Imam to\nprison several times to be watched over by Salih ibn Wasif, the prison officer.\nSalih who was of the enemies of Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT) would then take advantage of\nthe situation and bring in men famous for their crimes to torture the Imam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sheikh Mufid narrates, \u201cWhen Abu\nMuhammad, Imam Hassan al-Askari (PBUH) was imprisoned, some men from the\nAbbasids came to Salih ibn Wasif and said, \u2018Be hard on him [the Imam (PBUH)]\nand do whatever it takes to make the circumstances tough on him\u2019!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In reply Salih ibn Wasif said, \u2018I had\nappointed two of the worst and ill-natured men upon him, however they too have\nnow repented and have become pious men who say prayer and fast.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then the Abbasid men asked to see\nthose two men and after threatening them, they asked why they do not torture\nthe Imam. The two men said, \u2018What shall we say about a man who fasts during the\ndays and worships the whole night? He\ndoes not talk to anyone and does not do anything other than worship. Whenever\nwe look at him, our bodies begin to shake and it reaches a point that we feel\nwe are not in charge of our souls anymore!\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When the Abbasid men heard what the\ntwo men said, they returned disgracefully.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
