Imam Hadi (PBUH) says: \u201cDon\u2019t consider\nyourself safe from the harm of one who does not hold any dignity for\nhim\/herself!\u201d(1)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
God Almighty blessed humankind with\npride and worthiness, greatness and magnanimity. As noted in the Holy Quran:\n\u201cVerily we have honored the Children of Adam …\u201d (Quran, 17:70). And with this\ncharacteristic, the human being has been deemed a higher status over other\ncreatures. Allah (SWT) even goes as far to praise Himself upon the creation of\nthe human masterpiece, \u201cSo blessed be Allah, the Best of creators!\u201d (Quran,\n23:14).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What we can obtain from the verses and\nnarrations is that if a person finds the path of guidance and goodness, he can\nobtain such an honor that he surpasses the level of angels. Likewise, if he\/she\ngo astray he\/she will fall below the levels of the animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the path to greatness and dignity\nof self is paying attention to the fact that man\/woman knows who he\/she is,\nwhere they come from and what traits are suitable for his\/her proper and worthy\nposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The summation of such awareness forms\nthe ground and source for movement of mankind towards his\/her perfection and\nself-knowledge which is considered “as the best and most useful\nknowledge.\u201d(2) It is clear that a man or\nwoman with self-knowledge can understand his\/her abilities, and specific\ncharacteristics, while he\/she also has the ability to identify his\/her\nweaknesses, poverty, and dependency towards the ultimate power of God Himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In line with the narration of Imam\nHadi (PBUH), a person who does not know his\/her value, and has not put effort\ntowards self-knowledge, will clearly reach destruction. For if a person,\nthrough the lack of self-knowledge, has his\/her position and character reduced\nand humiliated, then he\/she would commit any act, and lose the dignity of\nhis\/her humanity. One must fear such a person; for if one does not deem any\nvalue for him\/herself, will obviously leave no dignity for any other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is therefore no question for when\npeople who lack culture, commit horrendous crimes, and corruption. Such acts\nbecome normal to them. It is therefore necessary in this chaotic life to\nremember learning about our selves, while also remembering to view ourselves\nand our positions as part of the larger geometrical shape of this world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
