Musa Mubarqa (brother of Imam Hadi\n(PBUH)) narrates that: I met Yahya bin Aktham in the public court and he asked\nme a number of questions. I then went to my brother Ali bin Mohammad (PBUH) and\nwe had a conversation in which he advised me and addressed to me several\nadmonitions that made me aware and obedient to him. So I said to him, \u201cMay I be\nsacrificed for you! Son of Aktham has written to me and asked me various\nquestions and sought their answers.\u201d The Imam (PBUH) smiled and said,\u201d Did you\nanswer him?\u201d I answered, \u201cNo, as I did not know the answers.\u201d The Imam (PBUH)\nasked,\u201c What were they?\u201d I answered, \u201cHe asked the following questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. Regarding\nAllah\u2019s (SWT) saying (in the Holy Quran (27, 40)): \u201cThe one who had knowledge\n(Aasif ibn Barkhiya) from the Book said (to Solomon), \u2018I can bring it (the\nthrone of Bilqis from far) to you before you even blink your eye\u2019, was the\nProphet (Solomon) in need of the knowledge of Aasif (as in he could not bring\nthe throne of Bilqis himself)?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2. Regarding\nAllah\u2019s (SWT) saying (in the Holy Quran (12, 100)): \u201cHe (Joseph) raised his\nparents on the throne and they feel in prostration before him\u201d, did Jacob and\nhis sons who were Prophets prostrate for Joseph?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
3. Regarding\nAllah\u2019s (SWT) saying (in the Holy Quran (10, 94)): \u201cIf you have any doubt about\nwhat We have revealed to you, ask those who read the Book\u2026\u201d, who is addressed\nin this verse? If it is the Prophet (PBUH&HP), he then was doubtful about\nwhat was revealed to him. If it addressed someone else, then whom was the Book\nrevealed to? Was it revealed to a person other than the Messenger of Allah\n(PBUH&HP)?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
4. Why is Fajr\nprayers recited loudly; while it is among day prayers whereas reciting loudly\nis prescribed for night prayers?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Musa also asked several other questions\nof Yahya regarding Islamic jurisprudence and history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then, Imam Hadi (PBUH) said,\u201d Write\ndown the answer\u201d. Musa asked,\u201d What should I write?\u201d Imam (PBUH) answered,\u201d\nWrite as I say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn the Name of Allah,\nthe Beneficent, the Merciful. May Allah (SWT) guide you to the right. I have\nreceived your questions through which you want to test us out of your obstinacy\nso that you may criticize us if you find a fault in our response. May Allah\n(SWT) reward you according to your intention. We have answered your questions\nin details (in this letter). Lend your ears, open your mind, and engage your\nheart for receiving our answer, as the argument is complete on you. Peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. You asked\nabout Allah\u2019s (SWT) saying: \u201cThe one who had knowledge from the Book said\u2026,\u201d that\nperson was Aasif bin Barkhiya. Solomon (PBUH) was not in need of the knowledge\nof Aasif; but (through this) he wanted to introduce Aasif ibn Barkhiya as his\nsuccessor to his nation that included people and Jinn. The knowledge of Aasif\nwas from Solomon\u2019s (PBUH) knowledge that he delivered to his successor\naccording to Allah\u2019s (SWT) instructions so that the nation would not disagree\nabout his succession. This was similar to the case of Solomon (PBUH) who had\nreceived this knowledge during the lifetime of David (PBUH), so that his\nsuccession to David became apparent and (by doing so) the argument on people\nwould be complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2. As for the\nprostration of Jacob (PBUH) and his sons, it was out of their obedience to\nAllah (SWT), and love for Joseph (PBUH); It was similar to the angels’\nprostration towards Adam (PBUH), which was not intended to Adam (PBUH)\npersonally; rather it was due to their obedience to Allah (SWT) and expression\nof love to Adam (PBUH). Thus, Jacob (PBUH) and his sons including Joseph prostrated\nto thank Allah (SWT) for their reunion. Do you not see that at that very time,\nJoseph (PBUH) showed his gratitude to Allah (SWT) by saying:\u201d My Lord! You have\ngiven me kingdom and taught me the meaning of narrations?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
3. Regarding\nAllah\u2019s (SWT) saying: \u201cIf you have any doubt about what We have revealed to\nyou, ask those who read the Book\u201d the addressee in this Verse was the Prophet\n(PBUH&HP) (himself). He, however, had no doubt about what was revealed to\nhim; but the ignorant ones used to say:\u201d why has God not appointed one of His\nangels as a Prophet, as there is no difference between the Prophet and us in\nterms of need for food, drink, and walking in marts\u201d. Consequently, Allah (SWT)\nrevealed to His Prophet: \u201cAsk those who read the Book, in the attendance of\nthose ignorant ones, whether God had appointed a Prophet before you who did not\neat food or walk in marts. You are like them (the previous Prophets) in this\nregards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And verily He said, \u201cIf you have any\ndoubt\u201d; while there was no doubt (in the Prophet\u2019s heart); (in fact) it was\nmentioned out of fairness. Similarly, He said (in Verse 54 of Chapter 3 of the\nHoly Quran):\u201d Let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, and\nourselves and yourselves to earnestly pray and ask for the curse of Allah on\nthe liars”. If He had said:\u201d Ask for (the curse of Allah) on you\u201d, they\nwould not have agreed with this offer. Allah (SWT) already knew that the\nProphet would convey the messages perfectly and that he would not be a liar.\n(In this verse), the Prophet (PBUH&HP) had no doubt about what was revealed\nto him and that he whatever he said was the truth, but he wanted to treat them\nwith fairness (and not accuse them of lying in the beginning).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
4. As for\nreciting the Fajr Prayer loudly, it is because the Prophet (PBUH&HP) used\nto offer that prayer (at the beginning of its time) before daybreak. It\ntherefore should be reckoned with the night prayers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So Imam Hadi (PBUH) answered the\njurisprudential and historical questions of Yahya similarly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
