Life passes and death comes; the life\nof his world ends. Soul is the measure of man\u2019s character and it will depart to\nhereafter and a new life in the hereafter begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Death is one of the signs of Allah\n(SWT) in the system of creation. The essence of death is unknown just like the\nessence of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among the most common questions\nconcerning death, the idea of why people fear and hate death has been\nfrequently addressed in religious texts. Man\u2019s fear and abhorrence from death\nderives from his attachment to this world. His attraction to a life of\nlongevity in this world is innate. People with a materialistic mentality\nconsider death as the end of all aspects of their existence. There are also\npeople who consider themselves as followers of a divine religion, but have\ndoubts concerning life after death and often do not believe firmly in\nlivelihood of the soul and the life after death (matters crucial to faith in\nProphetic traditions) and view this issue doubtfully. The latter group of\npeople also hate death. The reason is that their false hope to the longevity of\nlife conflicts with their instincts and can not satisfy their need for eternal\nlife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two mentioned groups hate death\nand view it with disgust. Some do not even want to hear the term death, nor are\nthey willing to visit a graveyard for a while. They refuse to learn from those\nwho passed away before them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other hand, there\nare those who believe in the creator of this world, follow the path of the\nrighteous prophets of Allah (SWT), and believe in the hereafter firmly. These\nare those who practice what Allah (SWT) has required of them, abstain from what\nHe has prohibited, and strive in improving their manners. This group does not\nview death as a catastrophe which ends their lives, rather they see death as an\nincident which puts an end to the temporary life of this world, and takes\nmankind to a world that is eternal and everlasting. They consider death as the factor which\nsatisfies their need for an eternal life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Their only concern is if they die in a\nstate in which their faith or practices lack the satisfaction of Allah (SWT).\nThey fear if their actions distance them from Allah\u2019s (SWT) blessings, even if\nit is for a short while.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This group of people should not worry.\nInstead, they should trust the magnanimity and kindness of Allah (SWT). With\nhope of forgiveness, they should submit to death (when it arrives), and accept\nit full heartedly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Hasan Askari (PBUH) has described\ndeath through a narration from Imam Hadi (PBUH) in the following story:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Once, Imam Hadi (PBUH) sat at the\nsickbed of a friend of his who feared death and cried hysterically as a result\nof it. Imam said, \u201cO Servant of Allah,\nyour fear of death is because you lack knowledge towards it. If your body is\ncovered with dirt to such an extent that may lead to skin illnesses, would you\nnot wash your body, knowing that washing your body will prevent illnesses? Do\nnot you like to clean them so that the dirt does not remain on your skin?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The man said, \u201cO grandson of the\nMessenger, surely I would cleanse myself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam then continued, \u201cDeath is like a\nbath, which is the last thing that can cleanse you of your sins. Therefore, if\nyou approach it and pass it, be certain that you have been freed from any\nsadness, and that you have reached full happiness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Hadi\u2019s (PBUH) sermons calmed the\nman, and it was not long before his time arrived.(1)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A person who obeys Allah\u2019s commands,\nattains his responsibilities toward his peers, abstains from wrong, and does\ngood to people, is ready for death. He\nor she puts his\/her hope in Allah\u2019s (SWT) blessings and forgiveness, and\nprepares to move to an everlasting world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
