When Mutiwakkil (the Abbasid Caliph)\nwhom his hatred to the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT) and their followers is evident,\nbecame the Caliph feared that Imam Hadi (PBUH) rise against him. Therefore he\nbade Imam Hadi (PBUH) to reside near him to keep him under his scrutiny so that\nif necessary impose pressure on him easier, and whenever needed murder him.\nHowever, Imam (PBUH), by the will of Allah (SWT), prudently decided to use the\nopportunity to infiltrate his influence into the government and the inner\ncircle of the Caliph, and he succeeded in doing so. Incidents such as the\nfollowing can illustrate the aspects of influence of Imam Hadi (PBUH) in the\ncourt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the court of Mutiwakkil, some had\ngossiped about Imam Hadi (PBUH) and had said that he had received letters and\narms from him followers at Qum, and that he had plans to overthrow Mutiwakkil\nand seize power. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mutiwakkil sent some of his soldiers\nto the house of Imam Hadi (PBUH). They attacked his house at night, but could\nnot find anything, and found Imam (PBUH) in a room alone sitting on the soil,\nwearing a woolen cloth in prayers, and reciting the Holy Quran. The soldiers\ntook him to the Castle straight away, and said to Mutiwakkil, \u201cNothing was\nfound at his house, and we saw him sitting to the direction of Qiblah, and\nreciting the Holy Quran.\u201d Mutiwakkil was drinking wine and there was a glass of\nwine in his hands. When he saw Imam (PBUH), he sat Imam next to him offering\nhim his glass of wine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Hadi (PBUH) said, \u201cBy Allah my\nflesh and blood have never tasted wine, excuse me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mutiwakkil exempted him, then said,\n\u201crecite a poem for me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam (PBUH) answered, \u201cI know very few\npoems.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mutiwakkil said, \u201cNo problem.\u201d Imam\n(PBUH) while sitting close to Mutiwakkil started reciting the following verses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAtop the summits of\nrocks guarding them, died and the summits could not save them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAfter times of glory and\nhonor, they were pulled down from their fortress, and settled in holes; oh,\nwhat a bad place they descended to!\u201d \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An exclaimer shouting after their\nburial: \u201cwhere are those bracelets and thrones and silk wears?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Where are those pampered faces before\nthe curtains and bowers?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then while it is asked about them, the\ngrave speaks for them fluently, \u201cthese are the faces that the worms pace on\nthem.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For a long time they drank and enjoyed\nmerrymaking, and today after all the enjoyments they are to be eaten.\u201d(1) <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mutiwakkil heard these poems and\nstarted to weep until he had his beard wet. The audience cried too. Then they\nreturned Imam Hadi (PBUH) to his house with great respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Hadi (PBUH) with this deep poem\ngave an awakening warning to the negligent, for death sees no exceptions. Then\nis when wealth or rank or whatever counts as dignity in this world won\u2019t help.\nTruly, remembrance of death and the passing days is the best notice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
