How far is the distance between\n\u201cforgetting about yourself\u201d and \u201cforgetting God\u201d? Questions like: \u201cWho am I?\u201d\n\u201cWhere did I come from?\u201d \u201cWhere am I now and where am I going?\u201d \u201cHow should I\nbe?\u201d \u201cWhat is my final goal?\u201d \u201cWhat do I want and what should I want?\u201d \u2026 and many more question of this type is a\nsign of \u201cforgetting about yourself\u201d. Such negligence is the introduction to\n\u201carrogance\u201d, \u201crebelliousness\u201d, \u201cwaste of life\u201d, \u201cgreed\u201d and other \u201csins\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
One may ask what is this \u201cself\u201d that\nforgetting about it has such ruining consequences. Other than the \u201cnatural\nself\u201d which is referred to as our physical body and the \u201csocial self\u201d which\npresents our social image in the life, there is third type. This third type is\ncalled as \u201cHumane self\u201d and identifies us as a human being in the whole\nuniverse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Getting to know this third type of\n\u201cself\u201d is more essential and useful. Moreover training this kind of self is\nmore difficult, rather effective in eternal salvation. Many have not found\ntheir Humane Self or have simply lost and ignored it. These individuals escape\nfrom thinking about their higher self regardless of where they are in this\nuniverse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement of: \u201cOne has to get to\nknow him\/her \u2018self\u2019 \u201d includes the set of talents and potentials of mental\ngrowth. The Divine talents and mercies around us are within this set. And so\nare the greatness and dignity of mankind and his value of existence. One who does\nnot learn about his talents, has certainly missed a big treasure in himself;\none who does not know his own price, will sell himself for a low price in life;\nand one who is unaware of his own divine capacity, will give in to sins and\ncontempt. The first rule to make profit in any business is to sell your item\nbased on the marker value of that particular item, so that make no loss in the\ndeal. The Infallibles have determined your value of existence to be equal to\nthe paradise and their opinion is an expert one in this respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Jawad (PBUH) who\u2019s annual birth\ndate is upon us has the following tradition on the subject:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYour value is\nthe heaven and you should not sell it for less; be aware not to trade yourself\nany less than the heaven.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This means that trading yourself and\nyour soul with anything less than the heaven is a guaranteed loss. Whatever you\ntrade yourself with, that would be your value in this life. If the world is\nconsidered the trade center of the close people to Allah (SWT), the great value\nof human being is also noted so that we don\u2019t loose it due to lack of\nexperience. When we can use our value for the eternal world of hereafter, then\nwhy waste in this world? When we have the capacity to go beyond the angels,\nthen why act as worthless as an animal? The reality is that if we spend from\nour true capital everyday and have replace that with no gain, then there will\nbe a day that we have lost that capital and left with nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, if we don\u2019t forget about our\n\u201cself\u201d and our \u201cvalue\u201d, we will not trade it any cheaper that its true value. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
