Ma3mun (1) had decided to have his\ndaughter, Umm al-Fadl, marry Imam Abu Ja&far Muhammad ibn Ali (PBUH). The\nother Abbasids who became aware of his decision reproached him and considered\nhis decision obscene. They feared that this act would prepare the same grounds\nas it did previously with Imam Reza (PBUH). They gathered their thoughts and\nconsulted as much as they could. Then a group of Ma&mun3s family gathered\nto talk to him about the issue. They told him: 99We fear that this act of yours\nmay take away the dynasty, which Allah has granted us, and destroy our pride as\na result. You are well aware of all the conflicts we have had with Ali2s\nprogeny in the past. You are also aware that the previous Rashidin Caliphs\nwould constantly banish and ignore Ali&s progeny as much as they could.9.3<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ma3mun replied: 3But you yourself were\nthe cause of all the conflicts between you and Abu Talib&s progeny. If you\nwere fair with them, they were more deserving of the position than you.2.9<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group then said: 39Are you going\nto allow your beloved daughter to marry a child who does not understand\nanything about the religion of Allah? A child who does not know what is allowed\nand what is not, and consequently does not know what is recommended and what is\nnot? … At Least give him some time to grow up and learn some manners. Let him\nlearn to recite Quran and learn more about the religion of Allah 33<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ma3mun answered: 3Woe onto you! I know this young man much better than you.\nHis understanding of the religion of Allah exceeds your understanding. His\nknowledge towards Allah, the Prophet and his traditions are far more than\nyours. His recitation of the Quran is\nmore fluent than yours; and his knowledge of the clear, unclear, reason of\ndescent, inner, and outer verses of the Quran surpass your knowledge.& <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1- Ma3mun was one of\nthe caliphs who ruled during the Abbasid Dynasty. He was the one who\noppressively martyred Imam Reza (PBUH). This incident shows that he was aware\nof the Imams& knowledge and insight in religion; however, he continued to\noppress them and limit their activities just as his forefathers would.
