There were strenuous efforts on every\noccasion to hold the personality of Imam Jawad (PBUH) in contempt. This fact\nwas so obvious that it is narrated that:\u201d Ma\u2019moon1 would touch upon all\ndeceitful acts in order to belittle Aboo Ja\u2019far\u2019s (Imam Jawad (PBUH))\ncharacter. All of Mamoon\u2019s efforts\nhowever would fail.\u201d2<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In spite of all these efforts, Ma\u2019oon\nwould fail and the Imam would gain a higher popularity and power amongst the\npeople. This would even scare the military who had control over the reins of\ngovernment. Imam Jawad (PBUH) successfully protected Imamah (divine leadership)\nfrom the harsh and dangerous situation it had fallen in. He was able to secure the pillars of\nreligion, encourage reason and proof, and give light and guidance to the dark\npath. He proved the trueness of the\nclaim of his father \u2013Imam Reza (PBUH) – about him: \u201cNo infant has been born as\nblessed and good as this infant in Islam.\u201d 3 In another text it has been\nrecorded that Imam Reza (PBUH) said, \u201cThis newborn infant is him whom no other\nlike him has been born to be so full of blessings for our followers.\u201d4<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Indeed, as days would pass by, the\npopularity of the Imam would rise and his star would continue shining. Even\nthough his age would count him as a child, he had reached the status of Imamah\nduring childhood years. Enemies and\nfriends all could not help but admit and witness to his knowledge and\nexcellence. Despite Ma\u2019oon\u2019s efforts to\nembarrass Imam Jawad (PBUH) in different scientific and theoretical assemblies,\nthose assemblies would on the contrary show the vast amount of Imam\u2019s knowledge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sibt ibn Jouzi, one of the famous\nSunni scholars, said \u201cHe (Imam Jawad (PBUH)) was like his father in knowledge,\nasceticism, and generosity.\u201d 5<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jahidh Mu\u2019tazili Uthmani lived in\nBasrah and was not a follower of Imam Ali and his progeny (PBUT). He had a long\nhand in knowledge and the sciences, and is the author of many books about\nscience and the techniques of his time. He lived in the same era as Imam Jawad\n(PBUH) and his children. Jahidh has placed Imam Jawad (PBUH) in the ten\n\u201cTalebyun\u201d and has said about them, \u201ceach of them is a knowledgeable. They are\nascetic, devotee, brave, generous, chaste, and pure.\u201d 6<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The other scholars have said many\nsimilar things about Imam Jawad (PBUH), which will not be stated in this\npiece. All in all Imam Jawad (PBUH) was\nhighly respected by his friends and common people. When Imam Jawad (PBUH)\nwanted to enter the capital city of Baghdad, people would run to high altitudes\njust to see the Imam. It was as if seeing the Imam even if it meant from afar\nwas a huge important event for them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another way to familiarize ourselves\nwith the greatness of Imam Jawad (PBUH) is by seeing the great respect of the\nelders for him. The uncle of his father who was the son of the sixth Imam was a\nman named Ali ibn Ja\u2019far al-Sadiq. Ali ibn Ja\u2019far was himself of the great\nreligious scholars, and yet he would very highly respect Imam Jawad (PBUH). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Muhammad ibn Hassan narrates, \u2018For two\nyears I was with Ali ibn Ja\u2019far and would record and write the narrations he\nhad heard from his brother (Imam Moosa ibn Ja\u2019far (PBUH)). One of the days that I was sitting in his\npresence, Imam Muhammad ibn Ali al-Jawad (PBUH) entered Masjid al-Nabi7. Ali\nibn Ja\u2019far hurried toward the Imam without even wearing his shoes or cloak. He\nkissed the Imam\u2019s hand and revered him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Imam said, \u201cUncle! Please sit, may\nAllah bless you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ali ibn Ja\u2019far said, \u201cMy Master! How shall\nI sit when you are standing?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When Ali ibn Ja\u2019far returned to his\nsmall gathering, the people around him began reproaching him for what he\ndid. They said, \u201cYou are the uncle of\nhis father, why do you act as such?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ali ibn Ja\u2019far told them, \u201cRemain silent!\u201d\nHe then held his beard and said, \u201cWhen Allah has not made this white beard\nworthy and deserving, but has made this young man worthy of the status of\nImamah, then how can I deny his virtue?\u201d\u2026\u2019 8<\/p>\n\n\n\n
