Compassion and love for Ahl al-Bait\n(PBUT) (Prophet\u2019s progeny) is without a doubt one of the gems that Shiites are\nproud of. But is it enough to simply love the Prophet\u2019s progeny and consider\nourselves as their followers? When we look into the life of Ahl al-Bait (PBUT),\nwe can find the measure to become a true follower of them\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It has been narrated from Imam Hassan\nAskari (PBUH) that: after Ma\u2019moon chose Imam Ali Ibn Moosa al-Reza (PBUH) as\nhis successor, his door servant came and said, \u201cA group of people are here and\nwant permission to see you. They say \u2018we are the Shiites of Ali (PBUH)\u201d. Imam\nReza (PBUH) said, \u201cI am busy; ask them to leave\u201d. The servant asked them leave;\nthey kept coming back for two months and repeated whatever they had said, until\nthey became hopeless and said to the servant, \u201cPlease tell our master that we\nare the follower of his father Ali (PBUH)! The fact that the Imam does not let\nus visit him has become a cause of reproach by our enemies. If we go back this\ntime without visiting him we will have no respect left for us in our town;\ntherefore, we will be forced to leave our own home town as this suffering is\nnot tolerable for us and as a result of humiliation in front of our enemies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Reza (PBUH) allowed for them to\nenter. They entered, and greeted him. But the Imam did not offer them to sit.\nThey remained standing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They then said, \u201cO Son of the\nMessenger of Allah! After this long turning away from us what is the reason for\nsuch severity towards us? Is there any reputation left for us?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Reza (PBUH) said,\n\u201cRecite this verse: And whatever affliction befalls you, it is on account of\nwhat your hands have earned, and He pardons much (1). By Allah, in this case I\nhave ignored and shown pride, just as my ancestors Messenger of Allah and Ali,\nand my fathers would have done.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They said, \u201cO Son of the Prophet, but\nwhy?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He replied, \u201cBecause you claim you are\nShiites (followers) of Amir al-Mu\u2019minin (Imam Ali (PBUH)). Shame on you! Amir\nal-Mu\u2019minin\u2019s (PBUH) Shiites were Hassan and Hussain (PBUT). His Shiites were\nSalmaan, Abuthar, Miqdad, \u2018Ammar, and Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr, who did not\ndisobey the Imam\u2019s orders even for one instant. As for you however, are against\nhim in many of your actions. You belittle most of your obligatory duties; you\nbelittle your brothers\u2019 divine rights… If you had initially claimed that you\nwere of Amir al-Mu\u2019minin\u2019s (PBUH) lovers, those who love his friends, and are\nenemies of his enemies, I would not have denied your claim. But what you\nclaimed was a very high status, and if you are not able to prove this status\nthrough your actions, you would be annihilated, unless Allah\u2019s blessings fall\nupon you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They said, \u201cO Son of the Prophet! We\nregret what we have said, and we repent to Allah (SWT). Now on we will say what\nour master has taught us: we are your devotee and friends, and enemies of your\nenemies.\u201d Imam Reza (PBUH) said, \u201cVery good, my dear brothers and lovers. Now\ncome close to me.\u201d He then continued asking them to get close so that he\nembraced them. Then the Imam said, \u201cTheir repentance caused theirs sins to be\nforgiven and now they deserve honor and respect due to their love for us.\u201d Then\nthe Imam ordered his servant to investigate their affairs and their families\u2019\nand give them alms and bestow them gifts and help them solve their problems.\u201d\n(2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the aforementioned\nnarration only those persons can claim to be true Shiites whose actions and\nbehavior resemble those of the Ahl al-Bait (PBUT) in all instances. In other\nwords the criteria for a true Shia, is not just love towards the Ahl al-Bait\n(PBUT), but it is the amount of obedience to the orders of Allah (SWT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
