Abu Qurrah was one of the Sunni\nnarrators at the time of Imam Reza (PBUH). Safwan ibn Yahya, one of the\nstudents of Imam Reza (PBUH), says, \u201dAbu Qurrah asked me to take him to Imam\nReza (PBUH). I asked Imam Reza (PBUH) for permission, and he agreed. Abu Qurrah\ncame to Imam Reza (PBUH) and began asking questions about the lawful, unlawful\nand Islamic laws. Finally he touched on a question about monotheism (Tawheed)\nas follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It is\nnarrated that Allah has divided His being seen (al-Ru\u2019yah) and His (al-Kalam),\nspeech between the two prophets. He gave Musa\/Moses the opportunity to hear His\nspeech, and Muhammad (PBUH&HP) the opportunity to see Him. So Allah is\nvisible.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Reza (PBUH) asked, “If so,\nwho conveyed this message from Allah to mankind and the Jenns?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The eyes cannot see Him. (1)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They cannot encompass Him with their\nknowledge. (2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is nothing similar to Him. (3)\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Was it not Muhammad (PBUH&HP)?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abu Qurrah then replied, “Yes, He\nwas Prophet Muhammad.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Reza (PBUH) said, “Is it\npossible that a person who brought such messages (The eyes can not see Him.\nThey cannot encompass Him with their knowledge. There is nothing similar to\nHim) to all creatures and called them to Allah, say that I saw Allah with my\nown eyes? I comprehended Him in my knowledge and that He is visible similar to\na man? Should you not be ashamed of yourselves? Even the atheists have not\nclaimed that the Prophet first brought one thing from Allah and then announced\nfrom Him other things contrary to the first.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abu Qurrah tried to answer the Imam.\nHe said, “Does Allah Himself not say, \u2018And indeed he (the Prophet) saw him\nin another time?” (4)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Reza (PBUH) said, “There is\nanother verse that points out what the Prophet actually saw. At first Allah\nsays, “His heart did not ever lie about what it saw” (5) It means\nthat the heart of the Prophet did not belie what his eyes saw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then Allah in another verse informs us\nabout what the Prophet saw, “Indeed he saw the Greatest Signs of his\nLord.”(6) Therefore, the signs of Allah (which the prophet had seen) are\ndifferent from Allah Himself. Allah has also said in the Holy Quran, “They\ncannot comprehend Him in their knowledge”(7). If the eyes could see Him,\nthen people might comprehend Him in their knowledge, and He could be defined\n(whereas the mentioned verse says comprehension of Allah is impossible).”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
