Kuleini and a number of great\nnarrators have narrated this story from Yasa’ ibn Hamzah – one of the\ncompanions of Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Reza (PBUH):<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I and many others were once present in\nthe house of Imam Reza (PBUH). People were asking questions on divine orders,\nfor which the Imam fully and explicitly answered each question. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the meantime, a tall man entered.\nHe greeted the Imam and said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“O Son of\nthe Messenger of Allah! I am of those who love and cherish you Ahl al-Bayt. I\nam on my journey to the holy city of Mecca. I have however, run out of money\nand food, and am not able to afford trip expenses back to my city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
However possible for you, please help\nme to return to my city. Since I am not of the people who are legally permitted\nto receive alms, I will repay the same amount in alms to the poor for the sake\nof Allah once I reach my city.” The Imam replied: “Take a seat here.\nMay the kind Lord shower you with His mercies.” Imam then continued to\nanswer questions people would bring up. When the gathering ended and the people\nleft, I and Sulayman Ja’fari along with some others stayed in the presence of\nthe Imam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Imam asked if he could excuse\nhimself and go inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sulayman replied: “May your\nfootsteps be full of blessings, the permission is with you.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Imam stood up and left. After a\nwhile, when he was standing behind the door, he asked: “Where is that\npassenger?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The passenger said: “I’m here!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Imam stretched his hand, while\nstanding behind the door he said: “Come, get this 200 Dirhams, spend it on\nyour trip, and it is not necessary to pay it back as alms.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Imam then continued: “Now,\nleave here so that we do not see each other!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The passenger from Khurasan got the\nmoney, said goodbye and left the house. Imam came back into the room and sat\nbeside us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sulayman asked: “O Son of the\nMessenger of Allah, may my life be sacrificed for you, why did you hide\nyourself?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Reza (PBUH) replied:\n“Because I did not want that stranger to feel ashamed.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
