Imam Reza\u2019s (PBUH) Cooperation with\nMa\u2019moon\u2019s Government<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many criticized Imam Reza (PBUH) for\nallowing Ma\u2019moon to introduce Imam Reza (PBUH) as his crown prince. Even though Imam Reza (PBUH) had accepted the\nposition under a strict condition-he would not have any part in the actual\ngovernment-, yet certain people complained that even just the name of Imam Reza\n(PBUH) under the government would not be suitable. They believed that in a way it was supporting\nthe corrupt government of Ma\u2019moon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a discussion to their complaints,\nImam Reza (PBUH) answered: \u201cAre the Prophets superior or their successors?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They replied: \u201cThe Prophets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam (PBUH) asked: \u201cIs a pagan ruler\ninferior or a corrupt Muslim ruler?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They replied: \u201cThe pagan ruler.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam (PBUH) continued: \u201cWhich\nsituation is better: one in which the person personally offers to cooperate; or\none in which that person is forced to accept a position?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They replied: \u201cThe one in which the\nperson personally asks to collaborate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Imam (PBUH) then said: \u201cThe pious\nYusuf was a prophet, while the king of Egypt during his time was a pagan. Despite this fact, (Yusuf) said: “Set me\nover the store-houses of the land: I will indeed guard them, as one that knows\n(their importance).\u201d (Quran 12:55). This\nis because Yusuf wanted to obtain a position in which he could use it to the\nbest aim. In addition (to this) the king\nof Egypt was a pagan, whereas Ma\u2019moon is a corrupt Muslim. Yusuf was a prophet\nand I am a successor of prophet. Yusuf\nsuggested himself but they forced me (to accept the position).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That logic is basically what all\nreligions accept, which allows the followers to enter the corrupt systems,\nproviding that they are steadfast in their faith and with the intention to\nbenefit the system in the correct moral sense. \nIn other words, they are not employed to help the system with its\ncorrupt activities; rather they are employed to improve the system in the best\nreligious way. In the latter case, the person is a part of the system and his\nefforts are put towards the system\u2019s benefits; but in the former, although he\nis a part of the system, he works in the system in such a way that can be\nbeneficial to his religion and to all of mankind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
All the Imams were as such in that on\none hand they would fiercely condemn cooperation with the Umayyad and Abbasid\nDynasties. When some would bring the excuse that if we do not cooperate,\nsomeone else will, the Imams would say, \u201cIf no one obeys them, their government\nwill be mutilated.\u201d On the other hand, they encouraged those people who\ncooperated with the Umayyad and Abbasid Dynasties, but had the correct attitude\non this matter: namely they employed the government in favor of their religion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
