Imam Musa ibn Ja’far (PBUH) says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“All people\nare blessed by Allah’s mercy as long as they treat each other kindly, interact\ntrustworthily, and behave honestly and justly.” (1)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One day, Harun al-Rashid \u2013 the Abbasid\nCaliph- asked some questions from Imam Kadhim (PBUH) through a debate between\nhim and the Imam. Imam Kadhim (PBUH) answered all his questions. As his last question, Harun al-Rashid asked:\n“Why do you allow people to attribute you to Prophet Muhammad\n(PBUH&HP) and call you as the Progeny of the Messenger of Allah\n(PBUH&HP), while you are the progeny of Ali ibn Abi Talib (PBUH). Clearly\nenough everyone relates himself to his father and the Prophet is your grandfather\nfrom the mother side!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam said: “Would you marry your\ndaughter to the Prophet, if he was alive and asked for your daughter’s hand in\nmarriage?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Harun said: “Why not? Certainly I\ndo. I would definitely be proud of this; I will boast of it to all Arabs,\nnon-Arabs and Quraish.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam said: “But if he was alive,\nI would not do that.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Harun Asked surprisingly: “Why?!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Musa ibn Ja’far (PBUH) said:\n“Because he is my father (even from mother side), but he is not your\nfather. So I can consider myself as the descendant of Allah’s Prophet.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Harun asked again: “So why do you\nconsider yourself from the progeny of Prophet while the progeny is considered from father side,\nnot from mother side. Please give me proof from the Holy Quran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then, Imam recited the following\nverses: “And We bestowed upon him [Ibrahim] Ishaq\/Isaac and Yaqoub\/Jacob;\neach of them We guided and Nuh\/Noah We guided before, and of his descendants,\nDawood\/David and Sulaiman\/Solomon and Ayub\/Job and Yusuf\/Joseph and\nHaroun\/Aaron thus do We reward those who do good (to others). And\nZakariya\/Zachariah and Yahya\/John and Isa\/Jesus and Iliyas\/Elias; Each one (of\nthem) was of the righteous.” (The holy Quran, 6:84, 85)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After reading these verses, the Imam\naddressed Harun: “Jesus is considered as the descendant of Ibrahim in this\nverse. Does he relate to Ibrahim from father side or mother side?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Harun said: “According to the\ntext of the Holy Quran, Jesus has no father.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam (PBUH) said: “So Jesus is\nconsidered as the descendant of Ibrahim from mother side. Similarly, we are\nconsidered as the descendant of the Prophet from our mother, Fatimah. Do you\nwant me to read another verse for you?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Harun replied: “For sure.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then, Imam read the verse of\nMubahilah: “But whoever disputes with you in this matter after what has\ncome to you of knowledge, then say: Come! Let us call our sons and your sons\nand our women and your women and ourselves and yourselves, then let us be\nearnest in prayer, and pray for the curse of Allah on the liars.” (The\nHoly Quran, 3:61)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After reading the verse, Imam said:\n“No one claims that the Prophet took any one else with him to the Mubahilah\nwith the Christians of Najran, except Ali, Fatimah, Hasan and Hussain. So\nHassan and Hussain are the instances of Our Sons in this verse, despite being\nrelated to the Prophet from mother side and being son of his daughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Harun, who was surprised and had\nnothing to say, asked: “Do you have any request?” Imam Kadhim (PBUH)\nsaid: “No. I want to go back home\u2026”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
