Islam has always encouraged people to\nbe active in order to be positive and beneficial in their lives. If people\nexpress endeavor and vitality, they would be able to benefit others as well as\nthemselves. Islam rejects an inactive life and showing laziness in work which\nresults in economic downturn and increasing poverty in the community. There are\nmany narrations given from the holy prophet (PBUH&HP) and his successors\n(PBUT) regarding encouraging to work actively in which some precious\ncharacteristics of such people have been addressed. For instance, the holy\nprophet (PBUH&HP) said: \u201cworship consists of ten parts which nine parts of\nit relates to work and effort to achieve legitimate sustenance.\u201d (1) Imam\nKadhim (PBUH) also said in this regard: \u201cAllah (SWT) indeed does not like an\ninactive person who exceedingly sleeps.\u201d(2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ahl al- Bayt of the holy prophet\n(PBHT) were also hard working in their personal life and modeled a great sample\nfor their followers. Imam Kadhim (PBUH) used to work hard himself to provide\ndaily costs for his family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hasan ibn Ali, one of the companions\nof Imam Kadhim (PBUH) narrates: \u201cOnce I saw Imam Kadhim (PBUH) in the middle of\nthe farm he owned. His feet were soaked in sweat (due to hard work). I told\nhim: \u201cMay I get sacrificed for you, where are the workers to work instead of\nyou?\u201d Imam said:\u201d The one who was even better than me and my father used to\nwork himself in his field.\u201d I asked:\u201d Who is the better one than you and your\nfather?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He responded: \u201dThe holy prophet\n(PBUH&HP) and Amir al-Mu\u2019minin (PBUH) and my grand fathers who they used to\ndo their work themselves and with their own hands, since this is the tradition\nof all prophets, messengers, and the righteous people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to this narration, Imam\nKadhim (PBUH) taught us the importance of effort to obtain the sustenance. He\nalso instructed that everyone, even the owners of high status in the society\nshould work to sustain their own independency and their families\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
