One of the best methods that the holy\nQuran offers to purify the soul of the humankind is to avoid negligence. For\ninstance, The holy Quran refers to this world as a plaything: \u201cThe life of the\nworld is just play and diversion\u201d.(1) By putting the two facts together, it can\nbe concluded that negligence and being obsessed with this world would not lead\nto purification of one`s soul and ascend to Allah (SWT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This world is being described in the\nholy Quran as a toy. There are also narrations from the infallible Imams (PBUH)\nthat this world is entertainment. Satan and Nafs al-Ammarah (carnality)\nendeavor to make the people entertained by this world. If anyone gets\ncaptivated by the glamor of this world and it`s temporal titles and positions,\nwould become a toy in their hands. They would make him laugh or cry, they could\ndrive him crazy or make him pleased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Musa ibn Jaffar (PBUH) declared\nto one of his close companions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis world is like the\nsea water. (Which is salty) No matter how much a thirsty person drinks, he\nbecomes thirstier and it ultimately kills him.\u201d (2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One who is thirsty and drinks clean\nand clear water, is the superior who absorbs and digests the water. On the\nother hand, once a thirsty drinks salty water, he becomes it`s captive; since\nit is in fact the salty water which takes the control of the digestive system,\nincreases the thirst, and makes him drink more. Moreover, if he drinks from the\nsalty water again, it is not going to quench his thirsty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A person who is totally engaged by the\nworld is not going to be pleased by what he has. No matter how much he benefits\nfrom the world, he greedily wants more. To avoid being captivated by the thirst\nof this world, we have to fight this insatiable greed. Attachment to this world\nis the major and the mostly significant obstacle on the path of growth towards\nAllah (SWT). We have to eliminate this barrier to achieve integrity. The holy\nQuran, in some cases in a subtle manner, implies some virtues but then, it\nfrequently reminds certain subjects. \nWhat Allah (SWT) tells us in the holy Quran over and over is refraining\nfrom the world. This is because any danger, which the human is in risk of,\nresults from the attachment to this world. Therefore, the infallible Imams\n(PBUH) have reminded us of refraining from this world. As mentioned in Imam\nMusa ibn Jaffar`s (PBUH) quotation this world is being referred to as brine\nwater and we have been warned about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
