Throughout our life, we may have seen\npeople, who seek the faults (1) of others and create the grounds for\npessimisms, hurtfulness, separation and even violence among others. So many\nrelationships of friends and families are destroyed simply because of such bad\nhabit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fault seeking is a moral illness which\nintrudes the privacy of people and destructs respect. Those who seek the fault\nof others destroy people\u2019s dignity by this immoral behavior and cause them to\nbe to be pessimistic toward each other and eventually create corruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fault seeking in Islam is among the\ngreat sins and the Holy Quran has promised a massive torture for those who\nspread immorality.(2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But what should we do when facing\nthose who seek the fault and reveal the privacy of others? What is truly the\nbest and most fundamental thing to do when observing such an act? We can find\nthe answer to this question by referring what Imam Kazem (PBUH) said on this\nmatter: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Muhammad ibn Fodayl, one of the\ncompanions of Imam Kazem (PBUH) narrates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I asked Imam Kazem (PBUH): \u201cMy master,\nI have heard a bad thing, which I dislike very much, about one of my brothers.\nWhen I asked my brother about that act, he denied; but those who told me about\nthe news are very much trusted.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam (PBUH) said: \u201cO Muhammad! Ignore\nyour ears and eyes about your brother and if fifty people swear to have\nwitnessed other than what your brother told you, approve only your brother;\ndeny what others tell you; avoid spreading any fault from your brother and\nprevent any harm to his dignity. If you do otherwise, you will be amongst those\nwhom Allah (SWT) says about them: \u2018Verily, those who like immorality propagate\namong those who believe, they will have a painful torment in this world and in\nthe Hereafter\u2026\u2019(3)\u201d(4)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Indeed, covering one\u2019s fault is the\nonly correct way to deal with fault seekers. Covering faults is the exact\nopposite of seeking and revealing faults. Covering faults is a great virtue\nwhile seeking faults is an immorality. Covering faults strengthens friendships\nand relationship while seeking faults destroy any relationship and separates\npeople from each other. Covering faults is a virtue of our Lord, Allah (SWT);\nas we recite in the Joshan Kabir prayer, Allah\u2019s attributes: \u201cO Lord Who\nreveals beauties and goodness; and covers faults and what is bad\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Covering the faults of people keeps\ntheir dignity is the path to perfection and obedience to our Master, Allah\n(SWT); this has been the virtue of our Imams. Let\u2019s try to improve this great\nvirtue in ourselves to the extent that we can (6).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
