Imam Kadhim (PBUH), the seventh Imam\nfrom the lineage of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP), was born on the 7th of\nSafar of year 128 (A.H). He was born in a house located between Mecca and\nMedina named as \u201cAbva\u201d; and he was named \u201cMusa\u201d, but was also referred to as\n\u201cAb al-Hassan\u201d. His lifetime was contemporary with the government of the\nAbbasid caliphs. During his lifetime, he suffered greatly from the oppression\nand torture of the caliphs in his time. He was put in prison for many years of\nhis lifetime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Kadhim (PBUH) was not only\nsuperior to all the scholars and scientists of his time in knowledge, but he\nwas also famous for his moral virtues and high humane characteristics. These\nsuperiorities became so well known that almost all scholars who familiarized\nthemselves with Imam Kadhim\u2019s (PBUH) glorious life have praised him highly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Famous Sunni scholar Ibn Hajar\nHaithami says in regards to Imam Kadhim (PBUH):<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMusa al-Kadhim\nwas the heir of his father\u2019s knowledge, excellence, and perfection. He was\ntitled \u201cKadhim\u201d because of his forgiving heart and patience towards the\nignorant people. Furthermore, during his lifetime, no one was similar to him in\ndivine knowledge, worldly knowledge, and in forgiveness.\u201d1<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It has been narrated in the book\nal-Tawhid2 by Sheikh Sadouq: Hisham ibn Hakam (the great student of Imam Sadiq\n(PBUH) and Imam Baghir (PBUH)) has said that there was a great Christian\nscholar named “Burayhah”. Burayhah was Christian for about seventy\nyears. He was seeking the truth and was in search of the right sect in Islam.\nHe would discuss and research about each sect, but every time he talked with a\ngroup of Muslims he was not satisfied with their beliefs. He would say,\n“if your leaders were the right and true leaders, then you should have\nknown at least some truth.” Continuing to seek for the truth, he heard\nabout the Shiite faith and its well-known scholar Hisham ibn-Hakam. After\ndebating with Hisham he asked: \u201cWhom do you follow, obey, and truly believe\nin?” Hisham introduced Imam Sadiq (PBUH) and described his character to\nBurayhah. Burayhah then became eager to see Imam Sadigh (PBUH) so he prepared\nhimself for a trip from Iraq to Medina with Hisham. As they were going to visit\nImam Sadiq (PBUH), in the corridor of the house of Imam Sadiq (PBUH), they met\nImam Kadhim (PBUH) who was a child at the time. Hisham and Burayhah greeted\nImam Kadhim (PBUH). Hisham explained the story of Borayhah for him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Kadhim asked Burayhah: \u201cO\nBorayhah! How much are you aware of your book (the Bible)?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Borayhah answered: “I am aware of\nmy book.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam asked: \u201cHow much do you believe\nin its interpretation?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He asked: “I believe in it as far\nas I know about it.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Imam began reciting some of the\nverses of the bible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Burayhah was so affected that he said,\n\u201cJesus would recite the bible just as you have recited it. No other than Jesus\nhad read it as such”. He then continued, “I have been looking for\nsomeone like you for over fifty years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Burayhah and his servant then became\nMuslims at that moment. Then Hisham, Burayhah, and the servant went to Imam\nSadiq (PBUH). Hisham explained the whole story for the Imam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Sadiq (PBUH) recited this verse\nof the holy Quran: \u201cThey were descendants one of another, and Allah is Hearer,\nKnower.”3, 4<\/p>\n\n\n\n
