When we hear a nice, logical statement\nfrom someone, we expect to see a harmony between his words and action. This\nharmony would increase that person\u2019s credibility in our eyes. However, we\nrarely see this harmony between people\u2019s words and actions. The same analogy\napplies for educating others; a person can be responsible for educating others\nonly if he has trained himself first. Reviewing the behavior of the Infallible\nImams (PBUT) reveals considerable points in this regard, a good example of\nwhich is the incident between Imam Sadiq (PBUH) and his cousin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Sadiq (PBUH) sent a pouch of\nmoney by Abu Ja\u2019far Khuthami \u2013one of his trusted narrators- to one of his\ncousins among Bani Hashim, and ordered Abu Ja\u2019far not to reveal this secret.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When Abu Ja\u2019far went to the cousin of\nthe Imam (PBUH) and offered the money, he said to Abu Ja\u2019far,\u201d May Allah (SWT)\nreward the person who has sent this money! He sends this money to us every\nyear, and it is sufficient for our annual expenses. But although Ja\u2019far ibn\nMuhammad (Imam Sadiq (PBUH)) is wealthy, he does not send us even a single\nsilver coin\u201d (1)\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another narration explains a similar\nbehavior of Imam Sadiq (PBUH) upon his death:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When the death time of the Imam was\nclose, he ordered that seventy gold coins be sent to Hassan Ibn Ali Aftas (a\nrelative of the Imam (PBUH)). A person asked the Imam (PBUH):<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAre you\noffering money to someone who attacked you with a sword and wanted to kill you?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Sadiq (PBUH) replied by saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWoe onto you! Have\nyou not read \u201cAnd they (those with reflection) join that which Allah has bidden\nto be joined and have fear of their Lord and fear evil reckoning (of the Day of\nJudgment)\u201d.(2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Verily Allah (SWT) created the\nParadise and gave a nice fragrance to it which can be smelled from a distance\nof a thousand years. However, those disobedient to their parents (3) or those\nwho have disconnected from their relative will never smell the fragrance of\nParadise (4)\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These examples show that Imam Sadiq\n(PBUH) emphasizes the importance of connecting with relatives while his own\nrelatives were extremely unkind to him; nevertheless, he still performed\nAllah\u2019s (SWT) order regarding them. This behavior of Imam Sadiq (PBUH) along\nwith his statement about the creating of the Paradise and people\u2019s benefit from\nit manifest Allah\u2019s (SWT) emphasis on the importance of connecting with\nrelatives, and that neglecting this order would result in getting extremely\ndistant from the mercy of Allah (SWT). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
