Mu’alla, who was a servant of Imam\nSadiq (PBUH), narrates the following story:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“One rainy\nnight, as Imam Sadiq (PBUH) left his house, I calmly followed him. Suddenly,\nsomething fell out of his hands onto the ground. I approached him and greeted\nhim. He asked:” Is it you Mu’alla?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Yes”\nI replied, “O son of the messenger of Allah (PBUH&HP)”. He then\nsaid:” Touch the ground and hand me what you find.” I stretched my\nhand toward the ground and found a piece of bread. I took it and returned it\nback to him. It was then that I realized Imam Sadiq (PBUH) was carrying a sack\nfull of bread, some of which had fallen to the ground. I said: “My Master!\nLet me carry the sack.” He refused:” No! I am worthier for carrying\nit; yet, follow me!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I followed him until we reached the\nshelter of Bani Sa’idah. The Shelter of Bani Sa’idah was an area where people\ngathered to shelter themselves from the extreme daytime heat; and where the\npoor and needy would sleep there during the night. There, I realized that Imam\nSadiq (PBUH) had left his house in the dark night in order to help the poor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Sadiq (PBUH) took loaves of bread\nout from the sack and placed one or two beside each person, making sure that no\none was left out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On our way back home, I asked the Imam\n(PBUH): “Do these people whom you help so much know the truth (are they\nShiites)?” Imam Sadiq (PBUH) replied:” If they knew the truth (and\nfollowed the school of the Ahl al-Bait (PBUT)), I would make them my partners\u2026.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
