Taavus Yamani was a scholar and famous\ncharacter that lived during the lifetimes of Imam Sajjad and Imam Baqir\n(PBUT). He had companions who were known\nas the companions of Taavus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abu Basir narrates: My friends and I\nwere sitting with Imam Baqir (PBUH) beside the Ka\u2019ba. Taavus Yamani and a group of his companions\ncame up to Imam Baqir (PBUH) and said, \u201cMay I ask you a few questions?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Baqir (PBUH) agreed. Taavus Yamani asked, \u201cTell me, when did\none-third of the people die? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Baqir (PBUH): \u201cO Sheikh! You are\nmistaken, instead of saying, \u2018when did one-fourth of the people die, you said\none-third.\u2019 During the time when Cane\nkilled Abel, four people existed on Earth, which were Adam, Eve, Abel and\nCane. When Abel was killed by Cane, one\nfourth of them were destructed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Taavus Yamani: \u201cWho were the people\nthat attested to the truth but were liars?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Baqir (PBUH): \u201cThey were the\nhypocrites who said to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HP), \u2018When the\nhypocrites come to you, they say: We bear witness that you are most surely\nAllah’s Messenger; and Allah knows that you are most surely His Messenger, and\nAllah bears witness that the hypocrites are surely liars.\u20191<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Taavus Yamani: \u201cWho was the messenger\nthat was neither man, nor Jinn, nor angel, but was referred to in the Quran by\nAllah?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Baqir (PBUH): \u201cIt was the crow,\nwhich Allah sent to Cain to teach him how to cover up the body of his brother\nAbel.2<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Taavus Yamani: \u201cWhat creature, not of\nman, Jinn, or angel, scared its nation, and the Lord has spoken of it in the\nQuran?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Baqir (PBUH): \u201cThat creature was\nan ant, which said to (the other ants), \u2018O ants! Enter your dwellings lest\nSolomon and his armies crush you, unperceiving.\u201d3<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Taavus Yamani: \u201cWhat creature, not of\nman, Jinn, or angel, did they accuse of lying, and which the Quran reminds us\nof?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Baqir (PBUH): \u201cThat creature was\na wolf, whom the brothers of Joseph lied about, saying: the wolf devoured\nhim.\u201d4<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Taavus Yamani: \u201cWhat is partly lawful\n(halal), but mostly unlawful (haram), which is also referred to in the Holy\nQuran?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Baqir (PBUH): \u201cThat was the\nprohibition of Talut (the representative of the prophet of his time), who said\nto his forces, to not drink from this river except for just a small amount (a\npalm of the hand).\u201d5<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Baqir (PBUH) had responded to the\nvery difficult questions of Taavus, without a moment\u2019s hesitation.6 With his proficiency in the verses of the\nHoly Quran, Imam Baqir (PBUH) had astonished those present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
