\u201cI had been pondering on who the successor of Imam Zain al-Abidin,\nSajjad (PBUH), would be, until I met his son, Muhammad ibn Ali (PBUH). He gave me an advice that assured me that he\nis the next successor.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Surprised, his audience asked to know\nwhat advice Imam Baqir (PBUH) had given him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Muhammad ibn Munkadir replied, \u201cOn a\nhot afternoon, I had gone to one of the districts of Medina. There, I saw\nMuhammad ibn Ali (PBUH) busy working on the farm. I thought to myself how such\na respected person from the tribe of Quraish is wasting his energy on gaining\nworldly goods at this hour. I went toward him to give him some advice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I greeted him. He looked exhausted and\nsweat was pouring from him. Yet, he replied my greetings cheerfully. I said,\n\u201cMay Allah guide you! A great man from Quraish working at such hour for worldly\ngains! What if your death comes at this hour?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Baqir (PBUH) replied, \u201cBy Allah,\nif death finds me in such a state, it has found me at the state of worship,\nleaving me needless of you and all others. What I do fear is for death to find\nme at a time where I am disobeying Allah.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I said, \u201cMay Allah bless you! I came to give you advice, but instead you\nenlightened me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Baqir (PBUH) could have hired\nother people to do his farming, but instead he desired to make his own living,\nand not depend on others for help. He therefore worked hard in his farm and\nidentified his hard work as worship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Indeed, there is a difference between\nworking only to gain worldly goods and wealth, and working hard to receive a\nlegitimate salary in the way of Allah (SWT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
