Among the dangerous groups that lived\nduring the time of the Infallible Imams (PBUT) in the Islamic society and had a\nremarkable influence on the Islamic culture were the Jews. Some Rabbis who had\nconverted to Islam and others who still remained in their Jewish faith were\ndispersed throughout the Islamic nation, and they became the ideological\nreference of some ignorant Muslims. The effect of the Jews on the Islamic\nculture manifested itself in the form of fabricated narrations known as\n\u201cIsra\u2019ilyiat\u201d. The majority of these fabricated narrations were about the life\nand characteristics of the previous Prophets. One of the Islamic scholars who\nused these fabricated narrations in his writings was \u201cTabari\u201d, the well-known\ninterpreter. Most of the narrations he has used to interpret the Holy Quran are\ntaken from Jewish sources, either directly or indirectly (1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ideological movement of the Jews \u2013\nwithin the Islamic nation and specifically among their scholars \u2013 was not\nlimited to interpretation of the Holy Quran, rather it had an awful effect on\nIslamic jurisdiction and beliefs. This fact is so clear in the history that\nthere is absolutely no doubt about it (2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Confronting the Jews and their\npoisonous influences on the Islamic culture was among the priorities on the\nagenda of the Infallible Imams (PBUT). Denying the narrations fabricated by the\nJews about the previous Prophets which snubbed the holy characters of the\nDivine Messengers is clearly observed in the actions of Infallible Imams\n(PBUT). They made effort to cut this undesirable cultural effect of the Jews on\nthe Islamic culture which was about to deviate the original, pure Islamic\nculture by making statements such as \u201cDo not resemble the Jews\u201d (3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The narrators among other Islamic\nsects welcome these fabricated narrations, entered them in their books, and\ncontaminated their culture with them. However, through the teachings of the Ahl\nal-Bayt (PBUT), their followers stood cautious against these deviating ideas\nand were safe from their dreadful effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among the Infallible Imams (PBUT),\nImam Baqir (PBUH) played an important role in opposing Isra\u2019iliyiat and the\nfabricated narrations. For example, the Jews who lived during the time of Imam\nBaqir (PBUH) \u2013including those who had apparently converted to Islam and those\nwho were still Jews \u2013 tried to convince the Muslims about the superiority of\nthe Sacred House \u2013 which was the holy site of the Jews over Ka\u2019aba. As such,\nthe fabricated narrations in this regard and widely spread them in the Islamic\nnation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zurarah narrates that \u201cI was sitting\nwith Imam Baqir (PBUH), and as he was facing the Ka\u2019aba, he said,\u201d Looking at\nKa\u2019aba is an act of worship\u201d. At this moment, a man from the tribe of \u201cBajilah\u201d\nwho was known as \u201cAa\u2019sim bin Umar\u201d came to the Imam (PBUH) and said,\u201d Ka\u2019ab\nal-Ahbar (4) says: \u2018The Ka\u2019ba prostrates towards the Sacred House every\nmorning\u201d. Imam Baqir (PBUH) said the man,\u2019 What do you think about this\nstatement of Ka\u2019ab al-Ahbar?\u201d The man replied, \u2018He is right\u201d. Imam Baqir (PBUH)\nsaid,\u2019 You are both lying\u201d. Then, being extremely angry, he continued,\u2019 Allah\n(SWT) has not created a spot on the earth more beloved than the Ka\u2019aba\u201d (5).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The tireless endeavors of the\nInfallible Imams (PBUT), specifically Imam Baqir (PBUH) resulted on the fact\nthat the heritage of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) was passed on to the\nShiites solely through the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT), without any interference from\nthe Jews. When Imam Baqir (PBUH) was asked about the source of the Hadiths he\nnarrated from the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HP) without mentioning the chain\nof narrators, he replied by saying,\u201d Whenever I narrate a Hadith without\nmention the chain of narrators, my reference for that is my father Zain\nal-Abidin (PBUH), from his father Hussain (PBUH), from his father Ali ibn Abi\nTalib (PBUH), from the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HP), from Gabriel, from\nAllah (SWT)\u201d(6).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This great heritage is what has saved\nthe Shiites from the alterations and fabrications that was widely spread among\nother Islamic sects due to the influence of the Jews and the abandonment on\nwriting Hadith during the time of the Caliphs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
