The consistent and powerful\noppositions of Imam Sajjad\u2019s (PBUH) against Hisham Ibn Abd al-Malik (the tenth\nUmayyad caliph) had increased Hisham\u2019s hatred toward Imam Sajjad (PBUH). Furthermore, the increasing popularity the\nImam had found amongst the people, especially those of Hijaz had convinced\nHisham to kill Imam Sajjad (PBUH). \nHisham ordered his brother, Walid ibn Abd al-Malik, to poison Imam Sajjad\n(PBUH). The offense of this great Imam was defending the true Islam and\nfighting against the tyranny of the Umayyad dynasty. Unfortunately, medication\nwas not able to save the Imam from the poison, and thus the Imam became a\nmartyr. During his last moments, the Imam repeated his father\u2019s last will and\nsaid: An hour before Imam Hussain\u2019s martyrdom, he came and hugged me; he then\nsaid:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cO My Son! Fear\noppressing someone who does not have a helper in avenging you, but Allah.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Moreover, Imam Sajjad (PBUH) told his\nson Imam Baqir (PBUH): I advise you my son to what my father advised me before\nhis martyrdom:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cO My Son! Be\npatient and persistent on the right path even if it is hard and painful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Sajjad (PBUH) fought the Umayyad\noppression for 35 years after Imam Hussain\u2019s (PBUH) great sacrifice. At the age\nof 57, he answered the call of his Lord, and signed his father\u2019s permanent\nrising in his own blood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The following is a piece of prayer taken\nfrom Sahifah Sajjadieh, which is a famous book of prayers to Allah (SWT) by\nImam Sajjad (PBUH). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cO Allah! Give me the\npower to overcome those who oppress me. Grant me a tongue that can refute all\nof those against me. And give me a mind that can defeat the deceitful\nintentions of my enemies, and dismantle them from transgression and injustices.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
