There are many verses in the holy\nQuran regarding the grand status of Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT) which the great Prophet\n(PBUH&HP) repeatedly expressed their interpretations during his lifetime\nand people were aware of the real meaning of the verses [regarding Ahl al-Bayt\n(PBUT)]. However, as the great Prophet (PBUH&HP) passed away, the government\nbanned talking about these interpretations in the public in order to protect\nits own legitimacy. Nevertheless, Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT) took the opportunity to\nremind people about their great status by the means of quranic reasoning in\navailable rare appropriate situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For instance, at the time of Imam\nHussain (PBUH), the consultants of Moawiyah, who underestimated Imam\u2019s ability\nin speech and eloquence proposed to Moawiyah: \u201cToday, people are showing\nfondness to Hussain (PBUH). It would be a good opportunity to ask him to give a\nlecture since he shows signs of stutter. [Which could have negative influence\non Imam\u2019s status amongst people]\u201d Moawiyah said: \u201cWe had the same assumption\nabout [Imam] Hassan but he disgraced us and stabilized his own position among\npeople.\u201d However, the consultants kept insisting and eventually made him to\norder Imam to give a speech. He told Imam one day: \u201cO` Aba Abd Allah! It would\nbe perfect if you took the tribune and gave us a sermon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam ascended the pulpit, began with\nthe praise of Allah (SWT), and sent his greetings to the holy Prophet\n(PBUH&HP). Then he heard someone asking: \u201cWho is speaking?\u201d(1) Imam Hussain\n(PBUH) responded:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are the\nvictorious party of Allah (SWT)(2) and the household of the holy Prophet\n(PBUH&HP) whom are close to him. We are the infallible relatives of the\nProphet and one of the two weighty important things that he has appointed us as\nthe second weight besides the holy book of Allah (SWT) [Quran](3). The book\nwhich pertains an elaboration of all things(4) and \u201cfalsehood cannot approach\nit, at present or in future.\u201d(5) We are the ones whom are assigned to interpret\nthe Quran and we are not helpless to understand the ta\u2019vil(6) of the Quran.\nIndeed, we truly follow the orders of the Quran. Thus follow us, since\nfollowing us has been determined as obligatory for you and following us has\nbeen tied to following Allah (SWT) who says in the Quran: \u201cObey Allah and obey\nthe Apostle and those vested with authority among you. And if you dispute\nconcerning anything, refer it to Allah and the Apostle.\u201d(7) He also remarks:\n\u201cHad they referred it (a report of safety or alarm comes to them) to the\nApostle or to those vested with authority among them, those of them who\ninvestigate would have ascertained it. And was it not for Allah\u2019s grace upon\nyou and His mercy, you would have surely followed Satan, [all] except a few.\u201d(8)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am warning you not to listen to\nSatan\u2019s messages since he is your evident enemy. (9) If you do so [following\nSatan] you are going to be as Satan\u2019s companions whom Satan [decorated and\njustified their wrong deeds, which were in the opposite path of Allah\u2019s (SWT)\nand the Prophet\u2019s (PBHU&HP) and] told them: \u201c \u2018No one shall overcome you\ntoday from among all mankind, and I will stand by you.\u2019 But when the two hosts\n(involved in the battle) sighted each other, he took to his heels, saying,\n\u2018Indeed I am quit of you.\u2019 \u201d(10) Therefore, [by listening to Satan] you will\nmake yourselves as subjects of swords and spears and the target of arrows (you\nwill be engaged in a battle). So [if this happens], faith shall not benefit any\nsoul that had not believed beforehand and had not benefited in its faith(11)\n(have not done any good deeds).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the speech reaches this point,\nyelled Moawiyah: \u201cO\u2019 Aba Abd Allah! Enough, you have already conveyed your\nmessage!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this short lecture, Imam first of\nall, reminded people of his status by addressing many verses of the holy Quran.\nThere were still some companions among people who had heard these verses\ndirectly from the holy prophet (PBHU&HP). Moreover, Imam warned people of\nthe ominous consequences of following Moawiyah. In fact, he responded to the\nenemies\u2019 delusive accusations and made Moawiyah and his group to surrender in\nthis incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
