Abd Al-Rahmaan Sullami was teacher of\nthe Holy Quran in Medina and used to teach Quran to kids. Imam Hussain (PBUH)\nsent one of his children to him to learn the Holy Quran (1). The teacher taught\nhim how to recite Surah al-Hamd, the first chapter of the Holy Quran. When the\nkid went to Imam Hussain (PBUH) and recited the chapter he had learned, Imam\nHussain (PBUH) asked for the teacher and ordered that he be offered one\nthousand gold coins and one thousand precious cloths as a gift in the presence\nof people. However, Imam Hussain (PBUH) did not suffice to these two gifts, and\nas it has been narrated, he ordered that the mouth of the teacher be filled\nwith jewelries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The way the mouth of the teacher was\nfilled with jewelries is not important; rather it was important that Imam\nHussain (PBUH) wanted to teach people that the mouth and tongue which teaches\nthe Holy Quran deserves to be filled with jewelries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anyhow, the news of Imam Hussain\u2019s\n(PBUH) three precious gifts for the Quran teacher for teaching one chapter\nspread in Medina. People were asking, \u201dIs teaching Surah al-Hamd that worthy?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In order to relieve their wonder, Imam\nHussain (PBUH) said a statement, the importance of which to the Quran teachers\nis much more than those three precious gifts. Imam Hussain (PBUH) said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201dWhat I offered\nto him is not comparable to what he has offered to my child\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this statement, Imam Hussain (PBUH)\nreferred to what the teacher had done as an \u201coffer\u201d, and considered his\ngenerosity valueless in comparison with that offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This generous behavior is done by the\nImam who teaches us in a poem which its translation is, \u201cWhenever the world\ntreats you with prosperity, you should be open-handed towards people, and offer\nthem before you lose your wealth, and get prepared for the Hereafter by this\nmeans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Beware that this giving will not take\naway your wealth when the world treats you with prosperity, and stinginess will\nnot keep your wealth when you are not in a good financial situation\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
