\u201cUsaam Ibn Mustalaq narrates: In one of my journeys to Medina, I saw\nHussain Ibn Ali (PBUH), and became fond of his attractive face and kind\ngesture. The hatred that I had kept deep within me towards his father increased\nmy jealousy, so I went toward him with every intention of bad mouthing. I asked\nhim: \u201cAre you the son of Abu Turab (Ali)?\u201d \nHe confirmed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And then began cursing him and his\nfather as much as I could. As soon as I became exhausted and paused from\ncursing, he looked at me kindly and recited the following verse:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cO Our Messenger! Keep to\nforgiveness and enjoin kindness, and turn away from the ignorant. If a\nsuggestion from Satan assails your mind, seek refuge with Allah; surely He is\nHearing, Knowing. The pious people, when a thought of evil from Satan assaults\nthem, they bring Allah to remembrance at that very moment, and they gain an\ninsight! Their brothers (the evil ones), however, (the Satans from Jinn and\nMen) plunge them deeper into error, and never remiss in misleading the evils\nones.\u201d (1)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He then continued: \u201cTake\nit easy upon yourself. I ask Allah\u2019s forgiveness for you and myself. If you\nwant any help from us, we will be happy to help you. If you need anything (in\nMedina) we will be glad to provide it for you. If you need guidance, we will\nguide you to your destination (without any hesitation).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shame filled my body as I\nremembered what I had done. The Imam however, reminded me of the verse about\nJoseph\u2019s brothers, and how they were regretful of their actions: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNow have no shame! May\nAllah forgive you, and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.\u201d(2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then Hussain (PBUH)\nasked: \u201cAre you from Shaam?\u201d I said:\n\u201cYes.\u201d He said: \u201cmay Allah (SWT) protect\nus and you. Now, without hesitation and fear, ask us your requests. God-willing you will find me in the best\nstate (of hospitality).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I was so ashamed because\nof his generous reaction that I felt the whole earth had tightened around me,\nand I had wished it could swallow me down. I then slowly distanced myself from\nhim, while I had come to realize I loved no other more than Hussain and his\nfather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
