He was the strong arm of his father;\nhe moved along the battlefield like a diver who comes on water and dives back\nin, moving forward. He cut through the continuous lines of the enemy\u2019s army and\nmade the armies retreat. Imam Hassan (PBUH) fought so bravely in the battle of\n\u201cJamal\u201d, bringing the battle to an end with his strong strike on the Camel of\nAysha, and overthrowing the flag of hypocrisy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Having inherited bravery and courage\nfrom his father, he rushed towards the army of the enemy in the battle of\n\u201cSiffin\u201d so courageously that his father, the unique hero of Arab, got worried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Indeed, he had no fear from facing the\nenemies, to a level that years after the martyrdom of his father and during his\npeace treaty with Mu’awyiah, Imam Hassan (PBUH) strongly addressed the son of\nAbu Sufyan and Hind by saying,\u201d (O) Muawiyah\u2026! If I had (enough) supporters, I\nwould have spent all days and nights fighting against you\u201d (1). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, he had to calm down his\ncompanions as well. Therefore, he says to those who furiously wanted to fight\nMu’awiyah, \u201dYou have not realized the purpose of my action, and that is why you\nare angry at me. If I had not done this (peace treaty with Mu’awiyah), not a\nsingle Shia person would have left on the surface of the earth, and all would\nhave been killed\u201d (2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other hand, when it came to\nworshiping the Lord, no one was superior to this courageous knight in piety and\nasceticism (3). He used to cry whenever he remembered death and reckoning of\nthe Day of Judgment; he remembered Allah (SWT) out of fear and hope at all\ntimes. His beautiful words to Junadah al-Azdi (one of his companions) testifies\nhis depth of knowledge on death and hereafter, <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cO Junadah!\nPrepare for your journey to the Hereafter and collect your provisions before\nyour death. Know that you are after this world, and death is after you\u2026\u201d (4).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In terms of piety, he was a role\nmodel; he used to say to Junadah,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201dKnow that you\nshall be held accountable for the permissible things of this world, and you\nshall be punished for its unlawful things, and you shall be blamed for its\nquestionable things. Therefore, consider this world as a dead corpse and take\nof it as much as you need\u2026\u201d (5).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other hand, in addition to all\nhis asceticism and piety towards his Lord, he was extremely humble and polite\nin front of people. He would never like to see people standing out of respect\nfor him while he was sitting. In fact, he would not allow people to get up out\nof respect for him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He used to sit with the poor, eat with\nthem, and help them financially. His servants would lay a carpet at the\nentrance of his house and he would sit on it and fulfill the needs of the poor\neven before they would lose their honor by asking. He used whatever he had in\norder to attain the satisfaction of his Lord and take care of the needy people;\nhe gave his properties to the poor several times. Generosity and bounteousness\nwas so manifested in him that he was given the title of \u201cthe generous one of\nthe Ahl al-Bait\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nevertheless, on the other hand, the\nenemies of the Ahl al-Bait (PBUT) never kept quiet, rather they did everything\nto harm Imam Hassan (PBUH). But he would remain patient against all those\nhardships. Finally, the enemies, who could not tolerate such a precious\ncharacter, decided to kill him. So they deceitfully poisoned Imam Hassan (PBUH)\nand martyred him.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In fact, oppression of the enemies\nagainst Imam Hassan (PBUH) did not end with his martyrdom. When, based on his\nown will, his body was taken to be buried beside the grave of his grandfather,\nthe Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HP), instead of honoring his body, they not\nonly avoided his body to be buried there, they offended him even further.\nInstead of throwing flowers at the body of the grandson of the Messenger of\nAllah (PBUH&HP), they threw arrows at his coffin and caused another tragedy\nfor the Ahl al-Bait (PBUT). The hypocrites compensated the preaching of the\nMessenger of Allah (PBUH&HP) in such way, just like before, and made the\nhonorable family of the Ahl al-Bait (PBUT) mourning(6).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
