All humans are eager to provide their\nown everlasting success, and often put forth their hardest efforts to obtain\nit. Finding access to success however,\nis dependent on two firm stages. One, is\nto know the truth, and two, is to act in the path of truth through valid and\nsuitable methods. Sometimes, truth and\nits attributes are clear, but for various reasons, which include monetary,\ndesire, and other reasons, the individual has transgressed from the main path,\nonly to find himself in the company of the enemies of truth. The Holy Quran makes mention of this matter\nin incidents where several of the people who defied and denied the prophets\nreason their decision to do so, despite the clarity of truth, to be the way of\ntheir fathers, and thus furthered themselves deeper into falsehood. (1) To\nfollow the path of certain people is only good and proper when those being\nfollowed are representing truth. If they\nthemselves be on the wrong path, it pulls the followers towards destruction and\npunishment. Furthermore, the excuse of\npeople for not following truth varies according to time and situation. Often the surrounding environments of family,\nfriends, or society, desire, fame, wealth seeking, and others may prevent the\nfollowing of truth.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The story that follows is from the\nlife of Imam Hassan Mojtaba (PBUH), which emphasizes the earlier text. That no matter how vivid the path and virtues\nof the Ahlul Bayt (PBUH) were, to the extent that even the public would admit\nto the perfection of their path, but this knowledge would not necessarily lead\nthem to following their path. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raja\u2019 ibn Rabi\u2019eh says, \u201cI was with a\ncrowd in Medina, in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HP). Abu\nSa\u2019id and Abdullah ibn Amr o As (2) were also present. When suddenly Hassan ibn Ali (PBUH) passed us\nand greeted us saying Salam. Everyone responded except Abdullah ibn Amr o As\nwho was quiet. He quickly followed Imam\nHassan (PBUH) and said, \u201cMay Allah\u2019s peace and blessings be upon you,\u201d and then\nsaid to us, \u201cHe is the most loved by inhabitants of the heavens. By Allah I have not spoken to him since\nSeffein nights.\u201d(3)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abu Said said to Abdullah: \u201cWon\u2019t you\njoin me and go to him to ask for his forgiveness?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abdullah said, \u201cI am ready,\u201d and with\nthat he stood up. Abu Said entered the\npresence of Imam Hassan (PBUH) and asked for permission. Once given, he asked\npermission for Abdullah ibn Amr o As, whom the Imam also allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abu Said said to Abdullah ibn Amr o,\n\u201csay what you had just told us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abdullah said: \u201cYes, I said, he is the\nmost loved on earth by inhabitants of the heavens.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Hassan (PBUH) replied: \u201cIf you\nknew I am the most loved by inhabitants of the heavens, then why did you come\nto rage a war on us, or why did you help increase our enemies in the battle of\nSeffein?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abdullah said: \u201cby Allah, I did not\nattend the battle as a fake soldier nor as one with a sword. I only accompanied\nmy father.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imam Hassan (PBUH) replied: \u201cDid you\nnot know that absolutely no one should be obeyed when commanding disobedience\ntowards Allah (SWT)?\u201d (one can only be obeyed to the extent that Allah\u2019s\ncommands are followed; anything beyond what Allah (SWT) has ordered us must not\nbe obeyed regardless of who is giving order of such mischief)\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the interpretations (Qumi)\npoints out in a narration by Imam Baqir (PBUH) that this verse was revealed\nabout Nadhr Ibn Harith. He attempted to confront the holy Quran by narrating\nstories from the kings of Persia, and thus get people away from Prophet\nMohammad (PBUH&HP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abdullah Ibn\n\u2018Amro \u2018aas was one those who attended the battle of Seffein in Muawiya\u2019s army.\nHe has a well known poem which says: \u201cThey told us that our view is to give the\npledge to Ali ** But our view is to kill him\u201d This has been referenced in books\nsuch as al-Musnaf Ibn Abi Shayba, vol.6, pg. 179; al-Mustadrak alal al-Sahihayn,\nvol. 3, pg. 527. His father \u2018Amro \u2018Aas was one of closest advisors to Mu\u2019awiyah\nwho introduced the Hakamiat (a particular election and judgment between two\nparties) and placing the holy Quran on spears in order to end the battle of\nSeffein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
3. In the year\n37 AH a battle took place between Amir al-Mu\u2019menin (PBUH) and Mu\u2019awiyah near an\narea called Seffein. In the beginning of Imam Ali\u2019s caliphate, he dismissed\nMu\u2019awiyah as the rule of Syria. Mu\u2019awiyah did not accept and raged a war on the\nImam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Towards the end of battle when Amir\nal-Mu\u2019menin\u2019s (PBUH) army got closer to victory, \u2018Amro \u2018Aas advised Mu\u2019awiyah\u2019s\narmy to put the holy Quran on their spears and ask for Hakamiat (judgment of\nelected individuals). A group of soldiers left the battle when observed such\nseen. Imam Ali (PBUH) chose Malik Ashtar or \u2018Abdullah Ibn \u2018Abbas. But those who\nhad quite the battle from the Imam\u2019s side insisted to have Abu Musa \u2018Ash\u2019ari\nfor their elected person. Thus the judgment of who should be the Caliph was\nassigned between Abu Musa and \u2018Amro \u2018Aas; Abu Musa with his lack of competency\nin the subject and pre-planned scenario of \u2018Amro \u2018Aas, Imam Ali (PBUH) was\ndismissed as the caliph and Mu\u2019awiyah was chosen instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
