Abou Dharr came out of the house and\nannounced to the people that the funeral of Fatimah (PBUH) was postponed, and\nasked the people to leave. The crowd dispersed gradually. Everyone had to wait\ntill the next day to attend the funeral of Fatimah (PBUH). After sunset, it was\ndark and the people of Medina went to sleep. Yet, the sound of crying could be\nheard from the house of Fatimah (PBUH). Ali (PBUH) was crying while washing the\nbody of Fatimah (PBUH).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was as if by seeing the bruises on\nhis wife\u2019s body, Ali (PBUH) was reminded of the scene where they attacked his\nhouse:\u201d\u2026Fatimah (PBUH) was behind the door\u2026An uproar was heard from outside\u2026a\nman shouted: \u201copen the door!\u201d Another said,\u201d Wood! Set fire! (1)\u201d \u2026The door got\nbroken by a kick and the uproar was mixed with the sound of Fatimah (PBUH)\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ali (PBUH) leaned his head against the\nwall. He felt a lump on his throat. Medina was quiet. The people were asleep.\nAll the children of Fatimah (PBUH) felt a lump in their throats, but they tried\nto cry quietly. Ali (PBUH) finished washing the body of Fatimah (PBUH). Then he\nput her in a shroud and called upon his children to bid farewell to their\nmother,\u201d This is your final farewell with your mother, until you meet her in\nParadise (2)\u201d. The children of Fatimah (PBUH) threw themselves on the body of\ntheir mother while crying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That night, Ali\u2019s (PBUH)\nresponsibility did not leave him any room for sitting or crying. He could not\nfeel tired in fulfilling the duty Fatimah (PBUH) had put on him. She had\nordered that her body be washed, shrouded, and buried at night (3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ali (PBUH) buried his wife. But where?\nIn Baqi? In her house? Besides the grave of the Messenger of Allah\n(PBUH&HP)? Or perhaps somewhere else\u2026 No one knows. He hid the grave, and\nmade the figure of some grave in Baqi so that nobody would identify the actual\ngrave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As Ali (PBUH) was burying the body of\nFatimah (PBUH) in the middle of the night in hiding, he was so concerned about\nfulfilling the duty Fatimah (PBUH) had put on him that he did not feel his own\ntragedy. But as soon as he finished the burial, all the grief sat on his heart.\nAs his tears fell on his face, he turned towards the mosque of the Messenger of\nAllah (PBUH&HP) and said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cO Messenger of Allah\n(PBUH&HP)! Peace be upon you from me and your daughter who has just came to\nyou and joined you so fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
O Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HP)! I\nhave lost patience over separation from your daughter\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Your trust has been returned to you.\nThey took her away from me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After her depart, my grief shall never\ncome to end, and my nights will be spent in sadness until the day I shall join\nyou, when Allah (SWT) chooses for me the place where you are currently residing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She will soon explain to you how your\nnation got united to usurp her rights. Ask her about all the incidents; because\nshe had suffered from so many tragedies that burned her right, yet she could\nnot find a way to express them. But now she can open her heart, and Allah (SWT)\nwill judge, and He is the best judge\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Your daughter was buried secretly in\nfront of Allah (SWT); her right was usurped; her inheritance was taken away;\neven though it was not long after your demise, and you were not forgotten yet.\nO Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HP)! I complain only to Allah (SWT), and you are\nthe best to console. Peace be upon you and upon Fatimah\u2026\u201d (4)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The next day, people gathered in front\nof the house of Ali (PBUH) to perform the funeral of Fatimah (PBUH), but they\ngot a clear response,\u201d It is all done\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The news of burying Fatimah (PBUH) at\nnight was another factor that ruined the social prestige and political status\nof the ruling authorities. Umar and some others decided to dig wherever Fatimah\n(PBUH) could have been buried, take her body out, perform prayers, and then\nredo the burial in a formal manner. Attacking the grave of Fatimah (PBUH), if\nit had happened, would have been a repeat of the attack to her house. Ali\n(PBUH) came out of his house armed, and went to Baqi to defend the hidden grave\nof his wife. He threatened to kill those who wanted to the dig the ground to\nfind the body of Fatimah (PBUH).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Umar who insisted on opening the\ngraves said to Abubakr,\u201d Did I not tell you they would do such?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abbas said,\u201d This was the will of\nFatimah (PBUH) that the two of you should not pray on her body\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Umar responded by saying,\u201d You Bani\nHashim will never let go of your old grudges against us. I swear to God that we\nwill open her grave and pray on her body\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ali (PBUH) said,\u201d O son of Sahhak! I\nalso swear to Allah (SWT) that if you do so, I will take my sword out of its\nsheath and\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abubakr said,\u201d O Abal Hassan! I ask\nyou to the right of the Messenger of Allah and the One Who is above the throne\nto leave him alone. We will not do anything against your will.\u201d (5)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The crowd dispersed and returned to\ntheir homes in groups; while Medina had lost Fatimah (PBUH).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The hidden grave of Fatimah (PBUH) was\nindeed her message to the history. It was a message to the Muslim people\nthroughout the history. This message would reach all the generations throughout\nthe history only if the burial of Fatimah (PBUH) was performed secretly, so\nthat conscience of people would look for her hidden grave. In fact, the\nwhereabouts of her grave could be found within the sad story of her life, and\nher constant opposition against tyranny and fanaticism. This opens up a new\nview to the history of Islam and the destiny of the Muslim nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was how Fatimah (PBUH) turned\ndeath to life, failure to success, calamity to victory, and her eternal silence\nto a constant movement and uprising among all the nations and generations to\nthe end of time. We hope that one day all the drops join together to make a\nroaring flow, and the movements based on awareness lead to the establishment of\nthe city of the Prophet on the earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Abubakr\n\u2013 the one chosen as Caliph in Saqifah \u2013 was informed that a group of people had\ngathered in the house of Fatimah (PBUH) and had not paid allegiance to him, he\nordered Umar to go there and take Imam Ali (PBUH) and others by force to the\nmosque to pay allegiance.
