{"id":4105,"date":"2019-02-14T09:30:20","date_gmt":"2019-02-14T09:30:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/roshd.com\/?p=4105"},"modified":"2024-11-28T15:45:53","modified_gmt":"2024-11-28T12:15:53","slug":"a-demand-for-guiding-the-nation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/roshd.com\/fa\/a-demand-for-guiding-the-nation\/","title":{"rendered":"A Demand for Guiding the Nation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Examining the history of Islam gives\nus a clear vision of the position of Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (PBUH) with regards\nto the political situations after the demise of the Messenger of Allah\n(PBUH&amp;HP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the reactions of the daughter of\nthe Messenger of Allah (PBUH&amp;HP) towards the incidents at that period of\ntime, her complaint against the government for the usurpation of the Land of\nFadak(1) and her objections to it are of specific importance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A question might arise that:\u201d Did Lady\nFatimah (PBUH) rise and show her intense opposition because the products and\nbenefits of Fadak was taken away from her?\u201d In other words,\u201d Should we consider\nthe incident of Fadak a personal dispute?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To answer this question, it is\nsufficient to refer to the sermon Lady Fatimah (PBUH) delivered in the Mosque\nof the Prophet (PBUH&amp;HP) before the Caliph and in the presence of a huge\ncrowd of the companions as her most clear sign of objection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lady Fatimah (PBUH) started her sermon\nwith praising Allah (SWT), and after testifying to the oneness of Allah (SWT)\nand the Prophethood of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&amp;HP), and mentioning the\ngreatness of the Holy Quran and the rulings of religion, she described her\nrelation to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&amp;HP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She went on by explaining the role of\nImam Ali (PBUH) in the mission of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&amp;HP) and how\nhe protected the religion. She introduced the brother of the Messenger of Allah\n(PBUH) as the agent by whom Allah (SWT) extinguished the fire of animosity of\nthe Pagans against Islam in the wars. Then, to make a comparison, she added,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2026This happened\nwhile you were resting in peace in the midst of all those dangers!\u201d(2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What an amazing contrast Lady Fatimah\n(PBUH) has made here. She has compared the greatest example of courage and\nbravery in the history of Islam with people who stood back in the battlefields\nas opposed to doing sacrifice in the way of Allah (SWT), and even ran away from\nfighting in some instances; such an act that is clearly condemned and forbidden\naccording to the verses of the Holy Quran (3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In another part of her sermon where\nshe asks for her property to be given back, she responds to the claim of Abu\nBakr that the Prophets do not leave anything as inheritance behind by referring\nto the book of Allah (SWT):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Is it in\nthe Book of Allah that you inherit your father and I do not inherit mine? You\nhave come up with a strange accusation. Do you intentionally abandon the Book\nof Allah and cast it behind your back? Does not the Book of Allah say that:\u201d\nAnd Sulayman (Solomon) inherited Dawood (David) (4)\u201d? And when it narrates the\nstory Yahya (John) son of Zakariya (Zechariah) says:\u201d So give me a child who\nwill inherit me and the family of Ya\u2019qoob (Jacob)(5)\u201d?&#8230; Did Allah (SWT)\nreveal a verse regarding you from which He excluded my father? &#8230;Is it that\nyou have more knowledge about the specifi\u00adcations and generalizations of the\nQuran than my father and my cousin?(6)\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is evident that in this part of the\nsermon, Lady Fatimah (PBUH) explained how the act of the Caliph was against the\nHoly Quran, and that it had no basis in the Divine words. In fact, Lady Fatimah\n(PBUH) put those who claimed to be the successors of the Messenger of Allah\n(PBUH&amp;HP) in a great challenge, which was unawareness of the book of Allah\n(SWT); this challenge on its own disclosed their unworthiness for being the\nsuccessor of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&amp;HP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, this argument was indeed\nmuch broader than just a personal dispute for the daughter of the Messenger of\nAllah (PBUH). This sermon describes a firm intention of this Lady to bring back\nthose who had returned to their ignorance to the path of Islam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By asking for Fadak, Lady Fatimah\n(PBUH) sent an eternal, important message to all the followers of the Holy\nQuran throughout the entire history; a message that expressed the deviation of\nthe Islamic nation from the straight path and the misplacement of the\nleadership of the nation. This message was even observed and referred to by\neminent Suuni scholars centuries later. Ibn Abil Hadid Mu\u2019tazili, the Sunni\nscholar and poet, says in his book:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I asked the teacher of the west\nBaghdad school (7):\u201d Did Fatimah not say the truth?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said,\u201d She did\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I asked,\u201d If so, then why did the\nCaliph not return Fadak to her?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The teacher smiled and said,\u201d If he\nhad returned Fadak to her that day, she would have claimed Caliphate for her\nhusband. Then the Caliph could not reject her saying, because he had\nacknowledged that whatever the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said\nwas the truth\u201d (8).\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;(The above is a selection\ntaken from \u201cFadak in History\u201d, by Ayatullah Sayyid Muhammad Baqir Sadr,\ntranslated by Mahmoud Aabedi, with some additions)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Roshd Website offers condolences\nto all Muslims, especially you dear friend, upon 3rd of Jamaadi al-Thaani, the\nanniversary of the martyrdom of the protector of Wilayah and the defender of\nImamate, Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (PBUH).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Footnotes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Fadak was a\nprosperous village near Medina, originally a Jewish land. After Islam became\ndominant, Allah (SWT) cast fear in the hearts of the Jews; so in order to\nescape from fear, the Jews signed a peace treaty with Prophet Muhammad\n(PBUH&amp;HP) regarding Fadak. Since Fadak was not conquered with military\nmight, it became the personal property of the Prophet (PBUH&amp;HP) according\nto the Holy Quran. After a while, the Prophet (PBUH&amp;HP) offered it as a\ngift to his beloved daughter, Lady Fatimah (PBUH). Fadak was owned by Lady\nFatimah (PBUH) until the demise of the Prophet (PBUH&amp;HP) when the first\nCaliph usurped it from Lady Fatimah (PBUH). The huge incomes of Fadak were one\nof the main sources of the budget during his rulership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. An excerpt\nfrom the Sermon of Fadakyiah<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sources: Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 29, pp.\n224-225; Ihtijaaj, vol. 1, p. 101\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sermon has also been narrated in\nSunni references such as Balaaghat al-Nisa, vol. 1, pp. 16-22; Al-Saqifah and\nFadak, pp. 137-144 with some differences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. In verse 15\nof Chapter 8 of the Holy Quran, Allah (SWT) addresses the believers by saying,\u201d\nO you who believe! When you meet those who disbelieve in a battlefield, then do\nnot turn your backs to them (and do not run away)\u201d. Then He continues by\nsaying,\u201d And whoever shall turn his back to them (the disbelievers) on that\nday, unless he turn aside for the sake of fighting or withdraws to join a group\n(of fighters), then he, indeed, becomes deserving of Allah&#8217;s wrath, and his\nabode is hell; and an evil destination shall it be\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is clear that Allah (SWT) considers\nrunning away from the battlefield as a great sin; however, unfortunately some\nof the Muslims ran away from the vital battles of the beginning years of Islam\nwhich had extra importance in protecting the existence of Islam. According to\nthe historical texts, some of the great companions including the first three\nCaliphs were among those who ran away from battlefields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, in the battle of Uhud\nwhen the disbelievers attacked the Muslims, despite the explicit statement of\nthe Holy Quran in which the Messenger of Allah (SWT) ordered the Muslims to\nstand firm (Chapter 2, verse 153), a large number of Muslims left the\nbattlefield, turned their backs to the enemy, and climbed the mountain of Uhud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this regard, some of the Sunni\nhistorians and narrators have quoted Ayisha that whenever the first Caliph\nremembered the battle of Uhud, he regretted having left the Messenger of Allah\n(PBUH&amp;HP) alone (Mustadrak of Hakim, vol. 3, p. 298; Tabaqaat of Ibn Sa\u2019ad,\nvol. 3, p. 163; Al-Bidayah Wa Al-Nahayah, vol. 4, p. 33; Musnad Abi Dawood\nal-Tayalasi, vol. 1, p. 8). Even the second Caliph, according to what has been\nnarrated in Tafsir Tabari (vol. 7, p. 327), Al-Dur Al-Manthur (vol. 2, p. 355),\nKanz al-Ummaal (vol. 2, p. 376) clearly confessed that he had left the\nMessenger of Allah (SWT) in that difficult situation and ran away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4.
