Lady Fatimah (PBUH), daughter of the\ngreatest religious and political man, considered family as a holy sanctuary.\nShe gracefully embraced her role as a creature filled with love, compassion and\nenergy, and devoted herself to supporting her husband and raising her children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lady Fatimah\u2019s (PBUH) relationship as\na wife to Imam Ali (PBUH) was in such that the two had the best understanding\nto one another. They were each other\u2019s friend and companion to the fullest. And\ninstead of seeking what the general public occupied their times and hopes for,\ntheir main concern was achieving the highest virtues and noble attributes. For\nthis reason the couple saw each other to be one of the best blessings for each\nother, and they would work hard together to help each other in their virtuous growth.\nAs a matter of fact, what makes life sweet is not the luxury accessories or\ndesign of the home and nor is what food is put on the table every day.\nUnderstanding between couples is what makes life joyful more than any other\nfactor. The principle is based on clear communication, sacrifice for one\nanother and care for each other\u2019s feelings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fatimah (PBUH) was a true companion\nand soul mate for Ali (PBUH); she was his consoler, consultant, supporter, and\nhaven. Imam Ali (PBUH) has said in this regards, \u201cI find peace and become at\nease once I go home and speak with Fatimah (PBUH).\u201d Lady Fatimah (PBUH) did not\nrequest for anything during her lifetime in Imam Ali\u2019s (PBUH) home, and she\nwould say to him, \u201cI am ashamed from my Lord to ask you for something that you\nmay not be able to provide that for me.\u201d(1) And in return Imam Ali (PBUH) has\nalso said about Lady Fatimah (PBUH), \u201cDuring the lifetime of Fatimah (PBUH), I\ndid not anger her, and she too never did anything to anger me.\u201d(2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lady Fatimah (PBUH) is a mother.\nMotherhood is composed of love and compassion. Fatimah (PBUH) holds these two\nattributes to the utmost limit. These attributes sets the basis of a good\nupbringing. A pure soul that offers love and compassion is enough for the\nobedience of her children, just as the Holy Prophet (PBUH) has said, \u201cThe best\nof women amongst you are those who are the sweetest and kindest to their\nhusbands, and most compassionate to their children.\u201d(3), (4)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this regard university professor,\nMary Thurlkill, author of Chosen Among women: Mary and Fatima in medieval\nChristianity and Shi\u2019ism (2007) (5) has written:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe house\nserves as the locus of domestic sacrality. Herein Allah bestows grace and\nblessing via progeny. Marriage socializes the theology of completion and in\ncertain respects objectifies women as child bearers. Women purvey divine favor\nby producing offspring while residing under the male householder\u2019s\ncustodianship. Mothers receive recompense in the afterlife; the Prophet, for\nexample, proclaimed that \u2018paradise is under the heals of the mother\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fatima, as archetypal mother, displays\nmany of these attributes: she remains closely aligned with the domestic sphere,\nshe bears coveted male children to the Imam Ali, and she ultimately submits to\nAli\u2019s custodianship. Unlike Mary, Fatima provides a practical model for women\nto imitate, available for all wives and mothers instead of a monastic audience\nmarried only to a spiritual bridegroom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
