We have frequently heard the stories\nof the fathers who gather their children in their last moments of their lives\ngiving them advice. In their last hours, they tend to pass the essence of their\nlife like an invaluable treasure to their descendants and inherit them with a\nprecious heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In our religious teachings, the Great\nProphet (PBUH&HP) is regarded as the father of Ummah (nation) (1), a father\nwho has fallen to the bed of illness after 63 years of strive, in days similar\nto these\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of these days, he heard the sound\nof crying. He asked for the reason; they replied: \u201cPeople, men and women of the\nImmigrates (Muhajirin) and the Helpers (Ansaar) have gathered in the mosque,\nand cry as they are worried for you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although he has lost his strength;\nalthough in hours his high spirit will rest in the heavens of God\u2019s mercy; if\nhe is the father and the Muslims are his children, and they are going to\nexperience the bitter taste of being orphans, the father is more worried.\nTherefore he said: \u201ctake me to the mosque so that I see them and they see me\ntoo.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amir al-Mu\u2019minin (PBUH) and Fazl ibn\nAbbas together helped him to stand up. The kind father of the nation who could\nno longer stand on his feet, with the help of Amir al-Mu\u2019minin (PBUH) and Fazl\nibn Abbas, entered the mosque while his feet were drawn on the ground, wearing\na garb and a bandana on his head. When the people saw him in this situation,\nthey started to cry and grieve. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
After sitting on the first step of the\npulpit, he started to praise and thank God; after that he said: \u201cI see you are\nworried for me. Has anyone lived forever? I am not an exception. O people! I am\nthe premier of your caravan (and I am leaving first). You will come after me,\nand you will join me beside the pond of Kawthar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pay attention! I will question you\nabout the Thaqalayn (the Two Weighty and Important things) that how you will\nhave treated them. I will leave these Thaqalayn with you – the Book of God and\nmy Itrat (Household); do not accelerate them for you will suffer from lack of\nleadership and you will disperse. And do not be left behind, for you will get\nlost and you will be annihilated. Do not try to teach them for they are wiser\nthan you\u2026\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the Prophet of God\n(PBUH&HP), in those moments, opened the eyes of his nation to another truth\nas well:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cO people!\nBeware that the only mean, between God and the humans, that brings about good\nand takes away vice is practicing the religion of God\u2026 I swear to the One Who\nhas rightly appointed me as the prophet, nothing will lead to man\u2019s salvation\nexcept action, an action which is attached to the mercy of God.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Afterwards, in order to show the\nseriousness of his points, he added a remarkable statement: \u201cEven if I disobey,\nI will fall!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the end, to make his words\nendurable, he asked for God\u2019s attestation: \u201cO God, be witness that I delivered\nyour message.\u201d(2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thusly the session of the farewell\nwith the nation ended, and the Great Prophet (PBUH&HP) left for his house,\nand placed in the bed of illness, and he never recovered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was the last moments of his life\nthat he ordered everybody to exit the room. The companions and his wives all\nexited. He wanted Fatimah, Ali and their children (PBUT) to be with him. They\ncame and sat beside his bed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At that moment, he took Fatima\u2019s (PBUH)\nhand and put it on his chest. He wanted to speak, but he burst into tears. He\nsilenced for a moment. His dears were weeping. After relaxing a little bit, he\nput Fatima\u2019s (PBUH) hand into Ali\u2019s (PBUH) and said: \u201cAli! This is the deposit\nof God and his Prophet that I leave you with\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The father of nation, worried for his\nchildren, deceased after some moments. In his last hours, as we noticed, he\naddressed his nation with two important wills: from one hand, he specified the\ncorrect path forever with his heritage; and on the other hand, he depicted the\ntrue blissful person the one who steps in this path, not with claims and\nwishes, but with practices and deeds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
