History reveals that \u2018Abdullah Ibn\nSalaam was Jewish before he embraced Islam in the time of Prophet Muhammad\n(PBUH&HP). After becoming a Muslim, \u2018Abdullah tried to convince Zaid Ibn\nSa\u2019nah, a Jewish friend, to accept the religion of Islam. Despite \u2018Abdullah\u2019s\neffort in explaining the essence of Islam, Zaid insisted in his faith, Judaism,\nand he refused to become a Muslim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2018Abdullah\nnarrates that one day he entered Masjid al-Nabi (the Prophet\u2019s Mosque) where he\nsaw Zaid sitting among Muslims in line for performing prayer. \u2018Abdullah said\n\u201cbeing overcome with joy, I approached Zaid to inquire the reason why he\naccepted Islam\u201d. Zaid responded \u201cone day while I was reading the Torah, I\nreached the verses that explain the attributes of Prophet Muhammad\n(PBUH&HP). I paid a close attention to capture his characteristics\ndescribed in Torah. I said to myself it is better that I sit in the Prophet\u2019s\npresence to see if he possesses these attributes, among which there was\nforbearance. I observed his behaviors and choice of words for several days and\nI found all the attributes in his personality. There was only one left unseen,\nforbearance; so I attempted to continue my quest for I read in Torah that,\n\u201cMuhammad\u2019s forbearance and patience supersedes his anger. Although ignorant\npeople treat him with disrespect and bad manner, they will not see anything in\nreturn from him except forbearance and patience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zaid continued \u201cfollowing my search I\nwent to the mosque again. I saw a Bedouin Arab man from desert while riding his\ncamel entered the mosque. He got off his camel when he saw the Prophet and said\nthat he was from some tribe who were struck by famine and therefore they were\nin need of food and sustenance. He said that the people of the tribes were\nMuslims and they hoped for help from the Prophet. The Messenger of Allah\n(PBUH&HP) turned to Imam Ali (PBUH) and asked, \u201cIs there any money left\nfrom the previous savings\u201d. The response was negative and sad for the Prophet.\u201d\nZaid said, \u201cI then interfered and mentioned to the Prophet, O the Messenger of\nGod, if you wish I would participate in a trade with you. I lend you some\namount of money until the time of harvest when I will accept dates for the same\namount in return. The Prophet received my offer and the trade, accepted the\nmoney and gave it to the Bedouin Arab.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zaid said \u201cI was waiting until a week\nbefore the harvest. One day I went to the desert where I found the Prophet\nsitting in the shade of a tree, surrounded by his companions. I approached him\nimpolitely, grab his color and told him, \u201cI know you well, you take money from\npeople and fall short in return. Do you know there is not much left to our\nmutually agreed time mentioned in our trade?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zaid proceeded, \u201cI treated the Prophet\nfuriously with great ignorance, although there was still a week left to the\nharvest. Suddenly I heard an aggressive voice; Umar Ibn Khattab drew his sword\nand asked me to leave with a rude call. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP)\nprevented him with patience and said to him there was no need for quarrel. The\nProphet said I should be recommended to maintain forbearance. Then he asked\nUmar to give me certain amount of special dates. Umar followed the order and\nadded 20 extra units of dates to the original amount. I was curious why he gave\nme extra dates; Umar said that the extra dates were the result of Prophet\u2019s\nforbearance. Since I suffered from Umar\u2019s anger, the Prophet ordered him to add\n20 extra units to the original amount, so that I would be satisfied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After seeing such manner and great\npatience, I have fallen in love with Islam and the Prophet\u2019s behavior. I have\nembraced Islam by testifying that Allah is one and that Muhammad is the\nMessenger of Allah.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There exist hundred of such examples\nin the lifestyle of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP), each is just a drop from\nthe great ocean of his manners to which Allah Almighty refers as sublime\nmanners in \u201cIndeed you possess the\nsublime manners\u201d(1), and indeed this is one of underlying reasons why Islam is\ngrowing fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
