{"id":4960,"date":"2019-02-18T19:12:36","date_gmt":"2019-02-18T19:12:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/roshd.com\/?p=4960"},"modified":"2026-06-07T18:25:22","modified_gmt":"2026-06-07T14:55:22","slug":"a-different-introduction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/roshd.com\/en\/a-different-introduction\/","title":{"rendered":"A Different Introduction"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The historians have narrated that:\nWhen the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&amp;HP) presented his religion to the Arab tribes,\nsome of them said,\u201d If we agree with you on what you say and pay allegiance to\nyou, and if God offers you victory over your opponents, would the leadership of\nthe nation be offered to us after you?\u201d(1)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Messenger of Allah (PBUH&amp;HP)\nresponded,\u201d This matter is in the hands of Allah (SWT), and He shall offer it\nto whomever He wills\u201d.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And Allah (SWT) did not leave the\nIslamic nation after the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&amp;HP) as He chose Amir\nal-Mu\u2019minin, Imam Ali (PBUH), as his successor. The Messenger of Allah\n(PBUH&amp;HP) revealed this reality, based on the order of Allah (SWT), on\nevery occasion and situation, among every group and gathering, and at every\nbattle. He delivered this Divine message to the people with various statements\nand wordings\u2026 (2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nevertheless, the incident of Ghadir\nhas a special status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Messenger of Allah (PBUH&amp;HP)\ngathered and explained at once all what he had said about Amir al-Mu\u2019minin\n(PBUH) since the beginning of his mission. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, the incident of Ghadir had\nspecific characteristics in which, the previous announcements did not have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nThe explicitness of the statement of the Messenger\nof Allah (PBUH&amp;HP) and the clarity of his purpose: He did not suffice to\nspeech on the day of Ghadir, rather he showed his purpose in action as well. As\nhe was delivering his sermon, he raised the hand of Imam Ali (PBUH) who was\nstanding to his right, and he actually showed the person he meant by doing so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nThe nearness of Ghadir to the demise of the\nMessenger of Allah (PBUH&amp;HP): In his sermon, the Messenger of\nAllah(PBUH&amp;HP) said, \u201dI shall be invited to my Lord soon, and I will accept\nthis invitation\u2026\u201d (3) It is clear that such a statement in such a situation\nleft a deep effect on the crowd; it completed the argument on all of them and\nleft no room for any excuse or pretext.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nThe occurrence of Ghadir in the presence of an\nincredible crowd of Muslims: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH&amp;HP) had announced\nlong before that this was his last Hajj. Therefore, a large group of Muslims\nwent to Medina in order to accompany him in Hajj. Moreover, many people joined\nhim during the rituals of Hajj to benefit from his company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Messenger of Allah (PBUH&amp;HP)\ncompleted the rituals of Hajj with this huge crowd of Muslims and left Mecca\nthen. When they reached the location of Ghadir which was the separation point\nof the people of Medina from the Egyptians and the Iraqis, the Messenger of\nAllah (PBUH&amp;HP) stopped and waited for those in behind to reach him. He\nalso ordered those who had gone forward to return to the spot. After praying,\nthe Messenger of Allah (PBUH&amp;HP) completed stood up and delivered an\nimportant sermon, and conveyed his message to the entire crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4- &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The decent of the words\nof Allah (SWT) (the Holy Quran) on Ghadir: Before delivering of the sermon by\nthe Messenger of Allah (PBUH&amp;HP), the following verse was decent:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cO Messenger!\nDeliver what has been revealed to you from your Lord; and if you do it not,\nthen you have not delivered His message, and Allah will protect you from the\npeople\u2026\u201d (4)(5)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After he delivered the sermon, the\nfollowing verse was decent:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis day have I\nperfected for you your religion and completed My favor on you and chosen for\nyou Islam as a religion\u201d (6) (7).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nThe crowd congratulating Amir al-Mu\u2019minin (PBUH):\nAmong the first people who did this were Umar and Abu Bakr; they congratulated\nImam Ali (PBUH) while saying, \u201dGood for you O son of Abu Talib! You have become\nour guardian and the guardian of every believer man and woman\u201d (8).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on these and other unique\ncharacteristics, Ghadir has a special position in terms of the introduction and\nannouncement of succession of Amir al-Mu\u2019minin (PBUH).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, Ghadir was the last spot\nfor announcement of the Imamate of Amir al-Mu\u2019minin (PBUH); the difference\nbetween this incident and the previous ones was that this time the Messenger of\nAllah (PBUH&amp;HP) did not mention it implicitly; rather he mentioned his\npoint very explicitly and clearly. Indeed what he said was very complete in\nregards with his purpose, and if it was not so, the verse of \u201cCompletion of\nReligion\u201d would not have been decent by Allah (SWT)\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;(The above is a selection\ntaken from \u201cGhadir, the Final Public Announcement\u201d, by Ayatullah Sayyid Ali\nMilani)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Roshd Website congratulates all\nMuslims, especially you dear friend upon the anniversary of the completion of\nreligion and the announcement of succession of Amir al-Mu\u2019minin (PBUH), the\ngreat Eid of Allah (SWT), the auspicious Eid Ghadir Khum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Footnotes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. For instance,\nwhen the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&amp;HP) warned his relatives and asked for\ntheir support, he said:\u201d O sons of Abdul Muttalib! I have been appointed for\nyou specifically and for the rest of people generally. So which one of you\nwould pay allegiance to me so that he would become my successor?\u201d In fact, the\nonly person who responded was Amir al-Mu\u2019minin (PBUH). This Hadith which is\nknown as \u201cHadith al-Dar (house)\u201d has been narrated by several narrators,\nhistorians, and authors such including: Ahmad ibn Hanbal in Musnad, vol. 1, p.\n111- Nisa\u2019i in Khasais, p. 18- Tabari in his history, vol. 2, p. 216\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the Messenger of Allah\n(PBUH&amp;HP) said to Amir al-Mu\u2019minin (PBUH),\u201d The position of you to me is\nlike the position of Aaron to Moses, except that there will be no Messenger\nafter me\u201d. This Hadith which is known as \u201cHadith Manzilat (position)\u201d has been\nnarrated by several Sunni scholars such as Bukhari, Muslim Neyshaburi, Ahmad\nibn Hanbal, Abu Dawwod Tayalisi, Ibn Sa\u2019ad, Ibn Majah, Ibn Habban, Tirmizi,\nTabari, etc. The author has examined this Hadith in his book \u201cNafahat al-Azhar\nfi Khulasa Abaghat al-Anwar\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Mustadrak\nSahihain, vol. 3, p. 533- Khasais Nisa\u2019i, p. 28 (with some difference in\nwording)- Kanz al-Ummal, vol. 1, p. 187, Hadith 953\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;4. The Holy Quran (5, 67)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;5. For example, among the\nSunni scholars and interpreters, we can refer to: Muhammad ibn Jarir Tabari in\nAl-Wilayah, Abul Hassan Wahid Neyshaburi in Asbab al-Nuzul, Hakim Hasakani in\nShawahid al-Tanzil, etc. Among the Shia scholars we can name great characters\nsuch as Shaykh Tusi in Tibyan, Shaykh Tabarsi in Majma\u2019 al-Bayan, Allamah\nTabatabai in Al-Mizan, etc who have mentioned the incident of Ghadir in regards\nwith this verse 67 of Chapter 5 of the Holy Quran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;6. The Holy Quran (5, 3)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;7.
