The city of Mecca is empty while the\ndesert outside the city gets filled by people. Suddenly a message comes from\nAllah (SWT) to the Prophet and reveals the following verse which has a decisive\norder to him:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cO Messenger!\nDeliver what bas been revealed to you from your Lord; and if you do it not,\nthen you have not delivered His message, and Allah will protect you from the\npeople.\u201d(1)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Looking at the content of the verse we\ncan see that this message has already been revealed to the Prophet, because the\nverse states that \u201cDeliver what bas been revealed to you\u201d. So what could be the\nreason for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) to avoid conveying this message? We\nknow with absolute certainty that he would not procrastinate without any reason\nand he did not have shortcomings in performing his duties. The delay in\ndelivering this message is due to the importance and magnitude of it. And the\nnext part of the verse confirms this fact about the message: \u201c\u2026 and Allah will\nprotect you from the people\u201d. Therefore, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) was\nlooking for the opportunity and the right moment to convey this message. But\nnow, this verse is clearly commanding the Prophet to convey the message\nimmediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nonetheless, there is more into this\nverse. The message referred to in this verse is so crucial that ignoring it\nimplies the actual prophetic mission has not taken place. In other words,\ndisregarding this message is equal to disregarding Prophet Muhammad\u2019s\n(PBUH&HP) efforts in the past twenty three years of that moment. Could this\nimportant news be a few commands on certain practices? If so, then disregard of\nsuch message should only harm a part of prophetic mission and not the whole\neffort. Thus, the message has to do with keeping the Prophet\u2019s mission safe and\nsound from deviation and digression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the end of this verse Allah (SWT)\npromises the Prophet to protect him(2) from any harm the enemies and people\nmight attempt to cause. What could this message be that can cause such serious\ndanger to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP)? He had previously defined the command\nof Charity, Jihad and abstinence from the infidels in family. There was never a\nword of \u201cdanger\u201d in declaring these hard commands. What order is this that the Prophet is\nwaiting for the proper moment to declare?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The matter must be very crucial\nbecause we are informed that the message will not please the enemies who had\nplanned to take advantage of the situations. \nBelow we have noted some points from the Holy Quran and the history\nwhich make things more clear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Holy Quran notes that\nthe unbelievers and the hypocrites would say that Muhammad does not have an\nheir to leave behind, and thus they were eagerly waiting for the death of\nProphet Muhammad (PBUH&HP)(3). They\nwere happy, thinking that Islam would be destroyed with the demise of its prophet. Even some hypocrites were pleased that they\nwould have a chance at taking up power after the prophet. Thus, in order to\nfaster reach their goal, they created a plan to kill the Prophet on the night\nof \u2018Aqabah. Allah (SWT) however\nprotected the Prophet, and did not allow for their plan to succeed (4).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This message is so crucial that\ndelivering it will make the enemies nervous and has serious dangers for Prophet\nMuhammad (PBUH&HP). This message is\nnone other than introducing the successor of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) in\nGhadir. All position seekers had devised plans to usurp this position. Thus\nwhen the Prophet introduces his successor by the order of Allah (SWT), the\nhopes and dreams of those after this position are destroyed and increased their\nanimosity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other hand, if a competent\nsuccessor is not chosen or if the Prophet does not announce one, then Islam\nwill be without a proper defender and will eventually vanish. Hence, if the\nsuccessor of the Prophet \u2013 selected by Allah (SWT) \u2013 is not announced to\npeople, then it is equal to not conveying the prophetic mission. The case of\nreligion without a defender is equal to not ever having the religion. Because\ntime will pass and the religion will be forgotten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Therefore, by the command of Allah\n(SWT), His Great Messenger (PBUH&HP) in the land of Ghadir announced that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe of whom I am\nthe Master (Mawla), of him Ali is the Master (Mawla)\u201d(5).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
