{"id":22481,"date":"2019-01-28T11:57:23","date_gmt":"2019-01-28T08:27:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/roshd.com\/?p=22481"},"modified":"2025-10-14T08:35:52","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T05:05:52","slug":"cooperation-of-imam-reza-peace-be-upon-him-with-the-government-of-mamun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/roshd.com\/en\/cooperation-of-imam-reza-peace-be-upon-him-with-the-government-of-mamun\/","title":{"rendered":"Imam Reza\u2019s (PBUH) Cooperation with Ma\u2019moon\u2019s Government"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"22481\" class=\"elementor elementor-22481 elementor-2124\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-87412dc elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"87412dc\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-settings=\"{&quot;ekit_has_onepagescroll_dot&quot;:&quot;yes&quot;}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-614c294\" data-id=\"614c294\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2eca0f6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2eca0f6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-settings=\"{&quot;ekit_we_effect_on&quot;:&quot;none&quot;}\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Many criticized Imam Reza\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0for allowing Ma\u2019moon to introduce Imam Reza\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0as his crown prince.\u00a0\u00a0Even though Imam Reza\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0had accepted the position under a strict condition-he would not have any part in the actual government-, yet certain people complained that even just the name of Imam Reza\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0under the government would not be suitable.\u00a0\u00a0They believed that in a way it was supporting the corrupt government of Ma\u2019moon.\u00a0<\/p><p>In a discussion to their complaints, Imam Reza\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0answered: \u201cAre the Prophets superior or their successors?\u201d<\/p><p>They replied: \u201cThe Prophets.\u201d<\/p><p>Imam\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0asked: \u201cIs a pagan ruler inferior or a corrupt Muslim ruler?\u201d<\/p><p>They replied: \u201cThe pagan ruler.\u201d<\/p><p>Imam\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0continued: \u201cWhich situation is better: one in which the person personally offers to cooperate; or one in which that person is forced to accept a position?\u201d<\/p><p>They replied: \u201cThe one in which the person personally asks to collaborate.\u201d<\/p><p>The Imam\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0then said: \u201cThe pious Yusuf was a prophet, while the king of Egypt during his time was a pagan.\u00a0\u00a0Despite this fact, (Yusuf) said: &#8220;Set me over the store-houses of the land: I will indeed guard them, as one that knows (their importance).\u201d (Quran 12:55).\u00a0\u00a0This is because Yusuf wanted to obtain a position in which he could use it to the best aim.\u00a0\u00a0In addition (to this) the king of Egypt was a pagan, whereas Ma\u2019moon is a corrupt Muslim. Yusuf was a prophet and I am a successor of prophet.\u00a0\u00a0Yusuf suggested himself but they forced me (to accept the position).\u201d<\/p><p>That logic is basically what all religions accept, which allows the followers to enter the corrupt systems, providing that they are steadfast in their faith and with the intention to benefit the system in the correct moral sense.\u00a0\u00a0In other words, they are not employed to help the system with its corrupt activities; rather they are employed to improve the system in the best religious way. In the latter case, the person is a part of the system and his efforts are put towards the system\u2019s benefits; but in the former, although he is a part of the system, he works in the system in such a way that can be beneficial to his religion and to all of mankind.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>All the Imams were as such in that on one hand they would fiercely condemn cooperation with the Umayyad and Abbasid Dynasties.
