The account below is an example of their interaction and help to the poor and others who asked for help.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>One day Uthman (the third Caliph)as sitting beside the Masjid.\u00a0\u00a0A poor man asked for money.\u00a0\u00a0Uthman gave him five Dirhams\u00a0[silver coins].\u00a0<\/p><p>The poor man said, \u201cGuide me towards a person who would give more help.\u201d<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Uthman pointed towards a section of the mosque where Imam Hassan Mujtaba\u00a0(PBUH), Imam Hussein ibn Ali\u00a0(PBUH), and Abdullah ibn Ja\u2019far were sitting, and said \u201cGo seek help from those young men.\u201d<\/p><p>The poor man went towards them and requested for help.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Imam Hassan Mujtaba\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0responded while intending to educate for the conditions of asking help, \u201cIt is all right to ask others for help under three circumstances only: a due compensation for which the person is unable to pay himself; a heavy debt for which he cannot pay; and or when he becomes poor and helpless and cannot help himself.\u00a0\u00a0Which of these (matters) have befallen you?\u201d<\/p><p>The poor man responded, \u201cMy problem falls under one of these conditions.\u201d<\/p><p>Imam Hassan\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0gave him fifty dinars\u00a0[gold coins]. Following him, Hussain Ibn Ali\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0gave him forty-nine dinars and Abdullah Ibn Ja\u2019ffar gave forty-eight.<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>When returning, the poor man passed Uthman.\u00a0\u00a0Uthman asked what he did.\u00a0\u00a0The poor man responded, \u201cI asked you for money, and you gave, but you did not ask why I needed the money for.\u00a0\u00a0But when I went to the three people, one of the (Hassan ibn Ali) asked me about the reason of my request.\u00a0\u00a0Once I responded, they gave me this amount.\u201d<\/p><p>Uthman said, \u201cThis family is the institution\u00a0 wof\u00a0<strong>knowledge<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>wisdom<\/strong>, and the\u00a0<strong>fountain of kindness<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>virtue<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0Who can find any like them?\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>(The above is a selection taken from &#8220;<em>The virtues of the leaders<\/em>&#8220;, by Mahdi Pishwayee\u00a0<\/strong>(with some additions)<strong>)<\/strong><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.roshd.org\/eng\/\"><strong>Roshd Islamic Shia Website<\/strong><\/a><\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><hr \/><p><strong><u>Footnotes:<\/u><\/strong><\/p><p><a href=\"#_ftnref1\" name=\"_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> There\u2019s a note on why Imam Hossein\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0paid one less dinar than Imam Hassan and JA\u2019far paid one less dinar than Imam Hossein\u00a0(PBUH); and that is Ja\u2019far considered respect for Imam Hossein\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0and Imam Hossein\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0considered respect for Imam Hassan\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0and if either of these were to pay more than what Imam Hassan\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0initially donated, it could mean that they hold a higher position than him.
