The Islamic community is greatly indebted to narrators of Prophet Muhammad’s\u00a0(PBUH&HP)\u00a0and his Ahl al-Bayt’s\u00a0(PBUT)\u00a0sayings (Ahadith). Were it not for these narrators’ determined efforts, Islamic teachings would not have reached us. The great Prophet of Islam\u00a0(PBUH&HP)\u00a0would encourage his companions to listen to and narrate the\u00a0Ahadith: “May Allah\u00a0enlighten\u00a0the person who hears a\u00a0Hadith\u00a0from us, and preaches it”\u00a0(2). Similarly, Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0has said: “Learning a\u00a0Hadith\u00a0from a reliable person regarding permissible and forbidden matters is far worthier than the entire world with all its gold and silver.”\u00a0(3) \n<\/p>\n\n
Amongst the narrators of\u00a0Hadith, we come across several virtuous women, whose names have been recorded as\u00a0Muhaddithin; and the most prominent of them are the women from the family of the Prophet\u00a0(PBUT). \n<\/p>\n\n
Lady Ma’soomah\u00a0(PBUH), a\u00a0virtuous member of this family, has narrated a series of\u00a0Ahadith\u00a0backed by their chain of narrators,\u00a0(4)\u00a0from Lady Fatimah al-Zahra\u00a0(PBUH).\u00a0\u00a0Due to her exalted character, both Shia and Sunni narrators have paid close attention to her narrations. The following is an example of one of her accounts: \n<\/p>\n\n
Hafiz Shams al-Din Jazari (died 833 A.H.), a prominent Sunni scholar, has authored a valuable book entitled “Asna al-Matalib fi Manaqib Sayyidina Ali ibn Abi Talib\u00a0(PBUT)”. In narrating the event of Ghadir, he mentions a\u00a0Hadith\u00a0by Lady Fatimah\u00a0(PBUH), of which Lady Ma’soomah\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0is in its chain of narrators. In this\u00a0Hadith, Lady Fatimah\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0has said: “Have you forgotten the speech of the Messenger of Allah on the day of Ghadir, in which he said: “Whosoever I am his\/her Master (Mawla), Ali is his\/her Master (Mawla),” and how he also said: “(O Ali)! You are to me as Aaron was to Moses.”\u00a0(5)(6) \n<\/p>\n\n
This exact form and chain of this\u00a0Hadith\u00a0from Lady Ma’soomah\u00a0(PBUH), has also been narrated by other Sunni\u00a0Muhaddithin, namely Amrtesri and Shawkani.\u00a0\u00a0As for the Shia references, scholars such as Mir Hamed Hussain and Allamah Amini have narrated this Hadith from the same source.\u00a0 \n<\/p>\n\n
According to the above example, Lady Ma’soomah\u00a0(PBUH)\u00a0has been recognized as a\u00a0Muhaddith\u00a0in both Shia and Sunni sources.\u00a0\u00a0 \n<\/p>\n\n
We, Muslims, are honored to have received the Ahadith\u00a0of Prophet Muhammad\u00a0(PBUH&HP)\u00a0and his Ahl al-Bayt\u00a0(PBUT)\u00a0through such virtuous people. And it is on our part to contribute in protecting and passing on these narrations. \n<\/p>\n\n
