Compensating Kindness

Sayyid Murtada in his book “Uyun al-Mu’jizat” has narrated from Imam Sadiq (PBUH) that he said:

“The people of Kufa went to Amir al-Mu’minin, Imam Ali (PBUH) and complained about drought and having no rain. They said to the Imam (PBUH),” Ask Allah to send us rain”.

Amir al-Mu’minin (PBUH) said to Imam Hussain (PBUH),” Go and ask Allah to send them rain”.

Imam Hussain (PBUH) stood up, praised Allah (SWT), sent blessings upon the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HP), and then prayed the following:

“O Lord! O One Who bestows goods and descends bounties! Order the blessed rains of the sky to shower upon us continuously, and quench our thirst with lots of rain; a vast, plentiful, glorious, granular, and flowing rain; so that You remove weakness from among Your servants and revive Your dead cities. Amen, O Lord of the universe!”

Imam Hussain (PBUH) had not finished his prayer while it started to rain. It rained so much that some of the Bedouins who had come from outside Kufa said,” We saw the rivers and springs full of water!””(1)

That day passed and Allah (SWT) made the people of Kufa owing to Imam Hussain (PBUH) by granting his prayers. He sent His rain of mercy upon the people of Kufa through the prayer of Imam Hussain (PBUH). Years passed until Muharram of year 63 AH when the people of Kufa confronted Imam Hussain (PBUH). However, this time, according to what history has narrated, the people of Kufa and Syria martyred the grandson of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HP), his family, and his companions while they had abandoned even his infant from a single drop of water!

And this question will always be repeated throughout the history that “Is there any reward for good other than good? (2)”
